I had 5% on the back of my Mazda 3 and 15% up front. 70% is legal in CA on front windows. I owned the car for 6 years. Not pulled over for it even once. I have 20% on the front of my FRS now and 15% in the back (tint looks better when they are relatively matched) and have yet to be pulled over for it.

My sister drives a 2007 Camry and got pulled over within three months. A good shop will remove them for you for free if you get a ticket due to that. Hell, my shop will even reinstall tint for free after I show proof that I took care of the ticket. Don't worry!

I am on the fence with tinting this car... all my prior cars were tinted.

So far I am finding the light factory smoke color a nice change compared to my prior cars.

I have 20% all around on mine, no sun visor...And it is illegal in Illinois

Get legal tint, being pulled over and having to remove it and re tint it is going to cost a lot.

Im always wearing polarized sunglasses while driving and the effects of tint really annoys me when im looking out the side windows. I might tint in the future but it will be light maybe 35 or more.

If you go illegal, just be sure to roll your window down before the cop walks up to your car. If he pulled you over because of your tint, you're already screwed. You shouldn't have gone that dark anyway. Shit'll look purple. But if he pulled you over for anything else, which is usually the case, the odds of him check/noticing your tint are probably pretty slim unless his organization recently decided to start cracking down on tint.

I have this outrageous idea for a law that if you get pulled over, you should be required to roll your window down before the cop approaches the car. If your windows don't roll down, you should be required to open the door and show both of your hands. I would be totally down to comply with this. We'd have even fewer dead cops and 0 reasons for tint laws.

Yeah, this would suck in the heat, cold, or if it's raining. Maybe the law could say that if your tint is darker than X%, then you have to do this. Otherwise, you can keep your window up until the last second for comfort reasons. Then they could start testing tint more often and bust people who aren't in compliance, thus earning more revenue, which is a huge goal these days anyway. Everyone wins.

Why?

Tints are for insecure little boys.

Anthony 08-10-2013 02:46 AM

Oh. Well shit, I wish someone would've told me. I've been trying to stay cool and keep my interior from cracking, while driving around looking all insecure and shit. :(

I just think no tint looks better. Also at night i want nothing that can obscure my vision in any window. Ive had 5% tint all around my STi and it was no bueno. Ripped it all out and just made it nicer.

5% is waaay too dark! No wonder you had visibility issues.
:bonk:

I don't know if you guys missed my thread here, but I got 3M Crystalline 70% installed. It's the second lightest tint from 3M but also has one of the best heat rejection properties. Like, you can literally feel the difference if you crack the window and let the sunlight fall on your skin.

Downside is, it's expensive. Paid $800 for all around, including the windshield.
