I don't know anything about the SRT exhaust, but it's a bolt-in deal, right?

Wait, what? Why would you weld headers on to your block? And I also see that you've welded your SRT exhaust in place, welded on to what?

That's just plain insanity. Welding them to the block. I was just bicurious because I've seen people weld them to blocks, which I find crazy and wanted to know if bolting them on will be as safe

Please don't take offense to this question, but where the hell have you seen people weld headers to their blocks?

This is a photo of a Cosworth F1 engine. Take note of how the header (exhaust manifold) is bolted to the block. If it's good enough for F1, it's good enough for your 86.

Bolt them on. Your factory headers are bolted on and are fine, the FA20Club header will be the same. Put new gaskets on and you should be golden. You could probably even reuse the OEM gasket, but as cheap as they are, i'd put new ones on the first time.

You couldn't weld them onto the block even if you wanted to, as the block consists of aluminum and the header consists of steel.

Psh you fools are still running steel headers? You should use aluminum headers for ultimate weight savings and reliability.

I welded a turbo to a manifold before. I'm not proud of it but it happened. 16g CRV

Fett4Real 06-26-2013 09:54 AM

Onto my drive shaft

If you buy a quality header and use new quality gaskets you shouldn't need to weld them. You can weld aluminum to steel but the process isn't easy.
