Kartboy's stuff is awesome and he's 100% classy about the way he does business. I was making a short shifter for my car as a project to teach me some CNC coding and he helped me confirm some of the measurements I needed even though it meant there wasn't a chance I was going to be buying his shifter because of it. I'll always get the Kartboy version of parts I need to buy if they exist because of that. :)

I've had both. Get the Kartboy pulley. It's cheaper, lighter, looks better, and doesn't have spokes to collect dirt to potentially unbalance it.

I have perrin only because I got it cheap. Either way it is night and day with throttle response.

is there any point of getting this if you have AT?

Go Fast Bits: .75 lb

they have a 3 piece set that saves more weight with other pulleys too.

Edit: Rally Sport Direct has them here

It won't feel as dramatic. Couldn't really tell on my WRX, but this is a different car. YMMV.

Not really unless you just want some additional "bling" on the front of your engine really. Since in the auto, the transmission is always in various states of "connected" to the engine, you won't see the benefit.

I thought the pulley needed enough weight on it to prevent a CEL.

ramiram1984 05-03-2013 10:32 AM

I have tamioka's pulley set. Lighter than perrin's. no CEL.

That CEL occurred haphazardly, but usually with a lightweight flywheel. Didn't affect everybody in the Impreza world, but enough for there to be concern. Too light a flywheel with too light a pulley would cause it usually; I wouldn't be concerned if you're not going for a super light flywheel.

why isn't anyone looking at this first?

Isn't it important to make sure that you are actually matching your pedal movement to the actual throttle applied?
It doesn't matter how light your pulleys are if the car isn't applying the amount of throttle you think you are applying?
