Aside from looking like a red brick with wheels this thing is the typical American econo-car. Oversized! I doubt it will be as agile as the FRS/BRZ is.
And I like how they said in the article, "I don't know if they (Toyota) are making any money but it is a very attractive car." Seriously lol between every single award practically won including being one of the hardest cars to get in 2013 because of how fast they are selling. Yeah I think they are making money on it lol. |
It's a start. I say take some of the existing parts from the Cobalt SS and the Pontiac Solstice GXP/Sky Redline, throw in the LNF engine, make sure it has LSD, and throw in the F35 and they'll be good. Oh, and stiffen the damn body/suspension. My Cobalt SS had so much body roll, both doors were rubbing the paint off the frame and itself in the corners.

A good example of this is the Integra Type-R. Honda/Acura took a loss on every ITR they sold in the US. It was a popular car, demand was high, and every single one sold, but Honda/Acura certainly didn't make any money off it, at least not directly. Halo cars are often sold at minimal profit margins (or even at a loss) by car manufacturers. They're designed to generate interest/publicity in the brand and attract buyers for other models. Not saying that's the case with the Twins, but that's probably what Reuss was talking about. |

that looks like a retarded version of a Camero.

The concept has been in development for a couple of years and all I see changed from the previous year on the exterior is the taillights.
Body work is hideous IMHO. Like a Dart crossed with a 1 Series. I don't even like the look of the BMW 1 series either. |
I don't have high hopes but if it turns out to be a real competitor, toyota / subie will need to up their game and make an even better version.
Its funny that I'm starting to see a connection with iphones. A) company makes new product which other companies ignore B) product corners market C) competitors start offering similar things but slight changes for differentiation D) no one can beat it so companies start copying the exact package. Soon.... E) people start using words like "FRS killer" and "game changer" for all competitor's products :) |
GM will never make a rival, they make a similar type of car, but it wont be a rival.

GM could have built and awesome handling Sky/Solstice but instead they decided to tune the suspension for safety oversteer. |
They haven't even started, so it's a few years off, and all type of bean counting can happen from now till then. I'm not holding my breath on this one.
|
I'm just thinking it would basically have to be a smaller cheaper corvette... otherwise how would it compete with the FR-S/BRZ? Not trying to be offensive but typically american cars aren't made to handle corners..
|
lol at GM. they can try. but won't succeed. this kind of market is dominated by imports. they need to stick with the muscle car market.
|
I think this would be great, but only as a next generation car. If they just take a camaro and make it smaller I would not be interested. I've driven an SS and the interior had the same clunky GM feel that they have had since the mid 90's.
Agreed that if they made a small 'vette it would be a much better platform than a small camaro. |
