I like the pictures along with the storyline. I dunno if I could get rid of your last evo!

Looks just like our old Evo!

You'll like the FR-S better...as someone else commented you can enjoy it even at slower speeds and with the handling you're able to give it a little extra (gas even when you shouldn't) without sacrificing the steering control. I find that you can make more last minute lane transitions rather than braking.

Great car history! Since you've owned all those, how do you think the Toyobaru compares to the STI, EVO and MS3?

Turbowned 01-21-2013 08:29 PM

Congrats man! I'm sure you'll be very satisfied with that decision!

Another former Evo X owner, welcome bro. I know that feel.

Hey everyone, glad I found this forum! I had been lurking the wrong forum apparently, all the good info is obviously here. I'm stunned at the amount of aftermarket stuff going on.

Just wanted to share how I got into this car. I've always been into cars, but never drove aggressive until I got a brand new 2004 SVT Focus. That car was awesome, and handled great. But I really wanted an Evo, so I quickly traded for this:

It was fully bolted and cammed on stock turbo, making around 330whp. I loved my Evo VIII, but got married and suckered into selling it. So I traded for a car I'd keep "stock". That's when I got this:

Ended up modding the Speed 3 to 300whp, but missed the Evo and traction. So after 2 years, I traded it on this:

Dumped a whole lot of money into it, and hardly ever drove it. I ruined the feel of the car with coilovers and oversized wheels. Still fun to drive, but I wanted something I could drive, and put tons of miles on. Enjoy it everyday and not mod to much (hopefully ha). My options boiled down to the Focus ST and FR-S. I never drove the ST, just sat in it. Super nice car. Finally got to test drive the FR-S down a very twisty road. SOLD ME!! So last Monday I picked up this:

I have just over 500 miles now, and am following the break-in properly. I've always wanted something small...like a Miata or S2000, but this was perfect. Do I miss the big torque from my turbo cars? Sure. But, I've never owned a properly setup RWD car. I'll say this much after a week of driving the FR-S...I think I need a driver's course! The Evo spoiled me!

So that's it, I couldn't be happier. I love the car stock, and for now just plan on the TRD exhaust and filter (keeping warranty). I may do an E85 tune with it soon, not sure. Gonna try to take it slow with this car, especially to keep the great balance. Look forward to learning a lot from this platform, the information out there already is overwhelming! Will give more impressions after I break her in, that moment can't come soon enough :happyanim:

Nicee..I own s2k ap2..wen i pay her off im gettin a frs

Welcome and thanks for sharing!

Thanks again for all the warm welcomes! I was pretty surpised at all the previous Evo owners here, but now I see why. This car is amazing, I can't get over it. I followed the break-in perfectly until 650 miles. I started taking her up in the rpms after that, not much though. Then, this weekend...I finally hit this, and the fun begins:

What a relief! I won't give an entire break-down, but I'll give a mini review of what I think so far. I don't even think about my Evo anymore. This car handles and feels perfect to me. Every time I sit in it, I feel like I'm getting in an actual sports car for the first time in my life. The driver's seat, position, wheel, stick, pedals, everything...is just perfect. During the break-in, I realized that partial throttle shifting at 4k is pretty damn fun. This car has some nice torque down there, and I'm completely satified with the city driving. Now, 4.5k rpms and up, this car is a dream on the backroads I go on! I've been leaving the VSC on for now, because I'm so used to grippy tires and never losing control. I've probably seen my traction control light flash a thousand times by now haha. Can't wait until I learn this car and RWD good, then go let loose somewhere. But for now, spiritual runs down scenic country roads in GA, I couldn't ask for anything better.

This car is just pure FUN, no matter what you're doing. I'm pretty sure I won't be modding this car beyond TRD stuff. Placing order for the TRD exhaust and air filter this week. A 93oct and E85 tune is the most tempting thing to me, but am going to hold off for now. I did however, do my first "mod" today. Thanks to this forum, I was able to mount my V1 nicely in 10 minutes:

I'm on this forum constantly now, trying to learn more and more! Will definitely be an active member here. Lot's of cool and knowledgeable people on here, and I need that. I'm sure I'll have some questions along the way, but I'll save that for later. Right now, I'm going to go enjoy this badass car some more.
:burnrubber:
And one last pic, my typical iPhone driveway pic after a good wash :) Thanks again everyone!
