Oh lord Jesus, warm air from vents!!

Ain't nobody got time fo that

CBR600RR 04-16-2013 01:29 PM

Every single car I have ever owned has done this.

two ways to solve the non-issue:

1 - turn your air temp knob all the way to the cold/blue side
2 - turn on the air recirculation

no disrespect but have you ever driven a car before? Your own car? Parents car?

EVERY CAR IS LIKE THIS

When you consider the outside air is ducting through your engine compartment (which is hot) you're not too likely to get cool air even if your temperature dial is turned all the way down. Hit the button on the left dial to close off outside air and/or turn on the a/c.

The HVAC unit in the FRS/BRZ twins operate exactly the same way as Toyotas of past. The temperature of air blowing out the vents has to do with whatever temperature the HVAC is set to when off. Therefore, by turning on your fan controller and turning the temperature down to LO and then turning the fan off, you will get cool air blowing into the cabin rather than hot air.

So if you are experiencing hot air blowing into your cabin from the air vents when HVAC is off, perform the following:
1. Turn on the fan speed. This can be at any level, I prefer one notch.
2. Turn down the temperature. The lower the temperature, the cooler the air that blows out of your vents.
3. Turn off your HVAC system.

The temperature of the air coming out of your vents should now reflect what the HVAC controls were set to before you turned the system off.

Even when off, the HVAC is constantly blowing air into the cabin. That temperature of air is what you last set your settings to.

The works inversely as well. If you want warm air slightly blowing in on a cold day but don't want the fan working or HVAC system on, you can turn the system on briefly to set your desired temperature.

This is how the HVAC system works on all of our Toyotas with automatic climate control and now also the BRZ.

I hope this helps. Anybody correct me if I'm wrong.

you don't even have to turn the fan off, just switch the cold and hot knob and you're good to go.

I don't think is an "issue" i see it as free air hehehe... Why waste gas on A/C?

In my old car I was able to bring in air from the outside. Don't like how you can't do this here. I have fixed it with the recirculation button before, but I don't get why it's coming in in the first place. When everything is off you should have no air blowing at all.

My RSX has always done this too. The air is warm because it's hot outside. If it were cold outside, you'd get cold air "leaking" through with the fan off.

I've noticed this car even if using the vents on cold air on a semi cold day the air is still hot/warm. Never had this with my civic. Wondering if its due to engine bay design.

EK_Golfer 04-16-2013 11:45 PM

My FRS does this too, even with the temp setting all the way in the blue for cold. This definitely is not normal as the air is pretty warm, none of my previous cars did this. Doesn't bother me too much though.

maybe its just too warm down there but here when I turn the climate controls to LO and then off I get cold air in the vents.

funny, I just found this out too last week.

but it seems that hitting the reciculate button works ok for me

Freetime 04-17-2013 09:04 AM

All toyotas do this. Leaving the recirculation button off allows air to come in from outside. If the temperature knob is set to warm, then you get slightly warm air. If it is set to the cold side, then you get cooler air that is closer to the outside temp.

People can't really be this dumb, can they?

russv 04-17-2013 09:16 AM

Bunch of whiners. I owned a 66 VW bug with NO vents. If it was hot you opened the little window vent or just rolled down the window if it was really hot. In cold weather you just plain froze your ass.:)

FRiSson 04-17-2013 09:22 AM

Putting recirculation on is not a solution, not only will the air become stale, but humidity builds up in the cabin and eventually fogs the windows.

This is the answer.. first start of the day yields outside ambient temps thru the vents..
after the car has been running and then off.. the ducts get heated up by the
engines heat nearby.. so when you enter the car again and the fan is on or the outside air flows thru the vent.. you feel the heat built up coming thru..
this is not a lexus and is minimal on noise and temp isolation materials..

i've noticed this annoying problem too. Never had this on my past two Civics. Post #11 does NOT work. its prolly a design flaw.
