But yea, start on second gear. The automatic BRZ has a snow mode, and what it does is it starts on second gear. Quote:

From my own personal experience, I used Rust Check on a '95 Civic coupe that I drove through 8 salty Southern Ontario winters (from '02-'10). If you know anything about '92-'95 Civics, you know that the rear 1/4 panels suffered serious rust issues. I sold the car last year with about 300,000 kms on it, and the rear 1/4 panels were still minty fresh (as was the rest of the body). I've used Rust Check for a long time, and after seeing what it did for that Civic, I'll never use anything else again. |

I find the traction control works amazing in the winter. The back end had a tendency to swing out at even the slightest tough of more throttle, but the TCS really holds it in place well. You start to slide, but it always catches you in time.
Big snow storm here a while ago, and the light for TCS was blinking non stop, the brake pedal was pulsing like nuts, it was like I was driving a jukebox, haha. I'm really suprised with the winter driving so far, I find it's not bad at all, I have a lot of traction in snow/ice. (Dunlop winter sport 3d). People who say, we're crazy to drive in winter... with the TCS off, I agree 100%, but otherwise, it's a just like any other car. |
I drove through some snow on Monday night for the first time and am very impressed with how the car handles in the snow. I've got Continental DWS All-seasons on the car and it handled fine. Barely saw the TC light come on and the only time I felt VSC was when I decided to test the traction by punching it a little in third gear. The back broke free and the front end started to slide sideways a bit and within a half-second VSC pulled the front end back and pointed me directly where I was going. I was impressed.

On Boxing Day night after that big snowfall started in TO, @ecdragon, @Rich1 and I went to a spot in TO for some good sideways hooning fun! (No, I won't say where we went, that's a sekret.) We spent about 2.5 hours goofing around, I have all of it on my dashcam; pulled the footage, just need to compile it. (Speaking of which, any suggestions on good software for editing videos?)
Then last night I took my dad out to another lot I scoped out, and showed him some getting sideways fun. :D Now my wheels are packed full of snow and vibrate on the highway. LOL |
