If I get one if will be auto as its for my GF & she has a dodgy left ankle so dailying a manual is a pain, literally

I would prefer a GR Corolla for her but at this stage I'm not sure if they will offer an auto

Hey, give the OP a break. It's a worthy thread if just for the up-to-date poll. Have to lol at the 85-15 split after 41 votes, considering Sub/Toyota have dropped the figure for manual vs. auto for the first gen as 85% vs 15%. Tracks well

This is mainly for polling to see what competition is like at the dealership when fighting for inventory or negotiating 😅

i absolutely would've gotten the car with manual windows, had it been offered.

i'm not afraid of cranking it from time to time.

This was still an option about 6-7 years ago to reduce pricing

For the industry yes. However even the Japan only 86 RC which was as stripped out as a brand new car gets, has power windows.

To sell a car in North America, power windows must be standard. If the low end Mitsubishi Mirage offers it at it's base price, effectively everything must. Those last batches of cars with manual windows back then, weren't even really wanted by rental. I'm not even certain no A/C is a thing anymore either because on that option rental always bought it.

You could still get certain base models of the Silverado in 2021 with crank windows, but I'm sure you would have had to special order it.

Indeed, 2022 seems to still offer this as an option, WT trim which I believe is work truck. I certainly can see the commercial truck side of vehicles still not offering power windows. I think the Ford E-series Cutaways are still offering manual windows.

I believe in some car markets manual windows are still chosen especially if it's price sensitive.

There’s a very good chance the GR Corolla will be manual only. Toyota currently doesn’t make an automatic that would be suitable. I’m not sure if the ZF could work, or possibly the auto from the GR86? But if the GRC makes around 300hp and torque, the GR86 auto wouldn’t be able to handle it. (Reliably from a manufacturer perspective)

couldnt toyota use this if the GR Corolla is FWD based??
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AWF8F35

Its a very fast transmission.

I dunno what they'd use if its RWD based since the IS500/RCF/ISF/GSF transmission is kind of old and slow....and im not sure if they have made any newer versions of the 8 speed....since they skipped straight to 10 speed in the LC and LS. The 6 speed i think would still be the same as in the GR86 and the AWD Lexus products.

An automatic Gr is now faster then an ap2 s2000. :)
