This center exit is really cool don’t get me wrong , but for 800 bucks I’d Rather spend the extra 190 and buy a Tomei 80R and save weight and also have a TI exhaust system. I mean you can get this type of single exit fabbed up by a shop for way cheaper to be honest .

Does anyone have any idea why they are replacing the resonator as well?

correct but that wasnt your statement. I was just pointing out that companies make stuff that can very easily melt your bumper all the time. Doesnt matter if it was properly installed or not. I has the potential to melt your bumper.

well if you want to play this game the original comment I replied to expressed skepticism that they did not believe the heat sink fins would do anything, which would lead to the bumper melting. I don't think they'd put them there - wasting material and increasing cost - if they did nothing. I bet they know about catbacks that touch the bumper melting and took that into consideration when designing this, seeing as the 3rd brake light is a smaller hole than the exhaust cutouts. and if this has the potential to melt a bumper WITHOUT touching it then this is a worthless complaint, as every exhaust has the potential to melt the bumper or otherwise damage anything it is near

and yes, correct installation is always important

Weird that the heat sink is on top of the exhaust tip.

Wouldn’t it have a better chance of cooling if it was below?

Nah that’s true. My bad. Wasn’t trying to play any game. I tend to read things pretty literally so when you said “why would someone make something that they know melts the bumper” (or something along those lines) I felt the need to point out that companies make products all the time that aren’t necessarily optimized for our cars.

I bet it works pretty damn well when the car is moving. Do you really think they'd sell something that would so easily melt the bumper? That'd be really embarrassing

I'm willing to bet it has the potential to melt / damage the surrounding area more than most exhausts.

@Ultramaroon has you bumper melted from you center exhaust?

Clipdat 05-04-2018 11:43 AM

I think the company that developed/designed his exhaust tested it extensively on track.

I'm not sure the same can be said for the FT86SF exhaust.

Basic design of outlet remains the same. If anything Ultra's would be even hotter since it is a smaller opening with less area for heat dissipation. If it doesn't melt the bumper than others should not either.

Clipdat 05-04-2018 12:00 PM

OK. All I said in my original post was "How does this not melt the rear bumper?"

Implying that I'm interested in the engineering or design considerations they put in to ensure that it doesn't melt the rear bumper. It's more based on surprise and curiosity that they managed to get it to not damage the rear bumper.

I wasn't implying that this exhaust design is automatically 100% going to melt the rear bumper, do not pass go, do not turn off traction control in the rain.

Nope. You were not implying that and I get your question. Others were saying outright that it would. That was why I called for Ultra's input.

Clipdat 05-04-2018 12:14 PM

I still think that little heatsink on top can't possibly do anything meaningful, but hey I could be wrong.

Nah, but the Ace isn't an idiotic muffler delete. The actual exhaust pipe doesn't come close to the bumper cover and the surrounding part is garnish.

Less than a minute in, we see this typical cheap bullshit waiting to fall apart. The OEM spring and shoulder bolt are necessary parts of a functional assembly because the front pipe, being fastened to the transmission, is supposed to articulate around that spherical joint. Duh!
