I honestly thought they were going to do some kind of special edition but I feel we would've heard something by now. Didn't Scion always announce their special edition in Nov/Dec for a Spring release?

I definitely expect Toyota to have two trim levels for the upcoming year but again nothing is written in stone but it would surprise me more if they didn't.

I used to want dual auto climate but eh I honestly just prefer regular old style as I still tend to go full blast on it or turn it off completely. And I'm a bit disappointed in the heated seats, while they work the ones I had in my GTI seem to be better and I would just want to sit and relax there and not get out of the car as it was so nice and comfortable.

I ask because I'm considering getting a twin soon, and while I like the Toyota 86 a lot, some of the things in the BRZ are undeniably desirable, like the 4" screen in the dash, dual auto climate and such, do you guys think there will be another car that comes out mid-model year like the 10 Series, Monogram, Release Series 1/2? Has there been any news on something like that which I've somehow skipped over?

They usually announce it after you get your FRS/BRZ :bonk::bonk:

Or people keep waiting for the announcement of the AWD turbo and will never get an 86/BRZ!

True story.
Wanted a Hyperblue BRZ for months, ended up buying a used Monogram FRS. The WEEK after I did, Subaru Canada came out with the equivalent edition for the local market.

Their loss.

Ok, I'm dumbfounded here. Why do we want dual A/C? Does a divider come up inside the car and keep the temperatures separate? Can't this all be accomplished by opening and closing vents on each side?

Apparently, you have limited experience with a mid to late 50s wife that has HOT flashes.

No matter how far YOU twist the A/C knob ...... it's not enough. However, with dual climate controls, SHE is in control and you are off the hook..... :D

Or the heater if she is cold at that precise moment in time.

I can imagine it completely. As I have said before even with all my "the automakers have a plan" preaching I am still convinced that the death of Scion was sudden and unplanned. It had all the earmarks of somebody on high saying "enough end it now". I also think that any plans of a Release went with it for 2016. Instead of a release I think that we will see the hinted at different trim levels for the 18s. Then mid year 18 we will see a Special Edition (no more Releases that was a Scion term). If they were going to do a Release/Special for the 17 MY I think they would have announced it by now to get some hype for a spring delivery. That is what they have always done in the past. We are pushing the deadline for such an announcement since it is only a couple of months until they will be changing production over to the 18s. Toyota does not care if Subaru has a Special out since they really are not trying to compete with them.

I wonder if Toyota will even keep up with a special edition of any kind. I cant think of a current car they do it for. Maybe just an extra trim but don't know if they release it mid year or not. I imagine it worked boosting sales a bit but wonder if Toyota cares that much

True!
A new trim level would be almost guaranteed to be held for the 18MY.

There have been special edition 86s in other places but that does not mean they will bring them here or create a new one for the North American market.

Yeah, you are right. They got those and we got the RS. But who knows if they bring stuff like that here now. One can only hope I guess. Doesnt affect me since I will get a BRZ when its time for another twin lol

Ya the whole Scion for NA thing sort of messed with our heads a bit so who knows what they will actually do. I still think it is safe to say that they will do nothing for the 2017 MY though so guys holding out will have to wait a bit longer or give up and buy what there is.
I have 3 more years before I have to decide what is next so I am fine with the current state of affairs. Will probably go in a whole different direction then anyway.

LOL Yep! In 6 years when all the 86s trim levels are all bloated and filled to the brim with gadgets and doodads they will come out with a stripped down base model and call it the FRS Retro special!
