Anyone have any ice-capades last night?

I was in Newmarket hanging with a buddy. Headed home around 12:30am. Roads were not bad...until I got into my subdivision (just North of Bolton) at about 1am.

Trying to get up the hill into my neighbourhood, which isn't even a very steep hill but it's long, and I completely lost traction about half-way up. Back wheels were just spinning freely with zero forward momentum. I hit the brakes...and the car started to slide backwards, even though I was full on the brake pedal. Slid backwards probably about 20-25 feet total, all 4 wheels locked up completely, until I slid backwards (very gently) into a snowbank. Got out of the car to make sure I didn't get into the ditch or do any damage, and the road was literally a flat sheet of ice. It was so bad that I couldn't even stand; I had to lean on my car for support, which made the car start to slide a bit more.

It was pretty obvious I wasn't going to make it in to my house this way, so I decided to turn around and try the other entrance into my subdivision. Took me about 10 more minutes to finally point the car back down the hill. I'm literally creeping down the hill at about 3km/h...and out of nowhere, because of the crown in the road, the whole car just slid sideways. I applied the brakes, but again that did nothing. Slid into the snowbank again, all 4 wheels locked, full brakes and e-brake on, and literally had to creep out the rest of the way with my left wheels on the snow that was on the shoulder, just to have enough traction to even get moving or be able to stop.

Thank goodness the other entrance had been salted, or I would have had to leave my car and walk to my house.

First time I've EVER felt that sensation of the whole car just sliding with all 4 locked up. It's scary man.

Drive safe out there, everyone.

Was definitely a slippery night yesterday.

I took the corner going into my street a little too quick and the back just fishtailed. Luckily there was no one around and I was able to correct it before hitting the large Bridle Trail Homes sign at the top of my street..
