It looks to me that the parcel shelf brake light was a bit of an after thought. I'd prefer the cleaner look and the fog light cluster is not used in the US & Canada. I would just need to reroute the wiring to the bumper and fabricate a bulb.

Or is this just a stupid idea.

One of our members (www.facebook.com/Brzworld) makes them.
You can see how they look on our wed. night meets.

The higher and brighter the CHMSL, the more effective it will be. The twins are small, low cars, and you would like this brake light to be visible to the driver of the vehicle BEHIND the vehicle behind you!

My thoughts on the CDC install would be to position it and mark edges on glass with painters tape or similar. Use those lines as guide to carefully install new 3M tape directly to glass and cure with heat gun. Tint should butt up against edges of this 3M tape and not interfere with adhesion of tape OR visibility of the LED strip.

Now install CDC unit (original tape removed) and cure again with heat gun - but at much lower temp, say 200F.

The tape joint against the glass is VERY obvious, and unless it is uniformly contacting the glass it will look Mickey mouse.

One of my favorite mods. Installed the $50 CDC Mustang part. Removed ET from the package shelf, fabricated some foam pieces to fill all recesses, then covered with one piece of black felt.

Any issues with heat causing the adhesive to come loose?

None on my cdc. They appear to be use genuine 3M tape, which means it could be stuck to the side of a sand building the desert and not have a problem
