First off let me say the conditions were less than ideal for any kind of FI testing, WAY less than ideal. The air temp was about 95 degrees with about 90% humidity with low atmospheric pressure.
My initial impression was that the E-85 tune has less power than the 93 tune. I know that it doesn't but it FEELS less powerful. I think it may be because the E85 tune is sooo smooooth. I actually ran into the rev limiter a few times not realizing my RPM was so high.
And the flat foot shifting really is cool. But you better watch your speed. You get past "go to jail" speed before you know it.
As for MPG/economy goes, my long term MPG with 93 octane is 29.1 MPG according to the MPG meter. On E? my average MPG was 32.4 MPG according to MPG meter. Of course that is impossible. So according to my odometer I got 27 MPG. That's believable.
So, The current price for 93 is $3.69 per gallon. And that's the cheapest it's been in a long time. It's usually closer to $4.00.
The E85 cost $3.11 per gallon.
So according to my calculations it cost .1268 per mile for 93 octane and E85 is .1152 per mile.
Enough reason alone to run alcohol.

But now I am running e>85. I got an alcohol hydrometer to check the purity of my E85 but it says it's about 120% alcohol. So it doesn't work. I'm assuming then that my current fuel tank contains a least E85 after the first tank purging. My first impression now is that yes it has more power.
At less cost.
More to come...

THANKS SHIV YOU ARE THE MAN.

I'm jealous! I had to fill with another third of a tank since I'm an AT waiting for those maps to hit. e85 is around $3.30 in my area, but I don't remember getting mileage that good when I was on e85 before. I feel like it was closer to break even when I was running it due to my higher costs.

I had this same experience and was wondering the same thing? I wonder if it is because it's smoother.:iono:

@WNDSRFR & @raven1231

I can't help but think that the lack of power you're describing could perhaps be the atmospheric conditions you're speaking of. Both @WRB5titch and I have felt the car pulling noticeably harder everywhere (both on/off boost through the whole rev range). True, the tune also feels smoother, but in no way does the car feel slower. For comparison, in SoCal, it's been about 80F with 50% humidity since Saturday.

Also @WNDSRFR and @raven1231 what do your trims and IAM look like? I know with the first E85 tune I ran it took some time before it felt like I was getting most out of my corn. It was like I woke up one morning and was all "ohhhh THIS is how it is with E85." But it wasn't the same day that I flashed.

I wouldn't doubt ambient conditions might be part of the problem too.

I'll have to pull another log and see. I'll do that today or tomorrow.

It's currently 91F 42% humidity for me. It was cooler the days prior but humidity had been in the 70's those days as well. That being said I do think weather conditions are at least in part at fault.

Here's my log from this morning's run to work. Keep in mind I didn't wait till I was below the E...being the eager beaver that I am...I ended up filling up about 10gallons of e85, the rest was a blend of 91 and lots of Torco, so prolly 93-95ish octane.

Like @DAEMANO said, the transition b/w on&off boost is really smooth since e85 closes that gap in power when not in boost, but that doesn't mean it feels slower to me...

Quite the opposite imo! Granted it doesn't feel as strong during than the day than it does at night, but it's a definite kick in the pants across the board.

Couldn't be happier with the car as it is, both @Robftss and @Shiv@Openflash have done GREAT work.

The corn has landed. Repeat the corn has landed.

OK
I can feel it now. It is unmistakable.
I have definitely become an alcoholic.
I think what happened is either related to atmospheric conditions or the fact that the first tank of E? had too much gas left in it. Or a combination of the two.
But I am definitely a convert now.
