Thanks. First time I've ever had a head unit with an LCD screen in a car, kinda distracting at first - I'll have to get used to it. I mainly wanted it so I could have more EQ control over the audio.

Still working on sorting out the USB port situation. Toyota uses a physically different plug that doesn't go directly into the Subaru head unit.

I don't like mine (MY15). First one with a screen I've ever owned. When I switch from my AM talk show to FM I have to press it like 5 times, and with no buttons you cannot do it by touch, you have to look at the screen. Not good for safe driving.

Yep, when I first got my 2013, I had the head unit swapped out for a Kenwood unit.

As I recall, they (the Geek Squad) had to use a adapter harness. Also, they didn't use the in-dash USB port, but ran a USB cable into the glove box.

All I wanted was to upgrade to be able to hear XM radio ...... but, I got carried away ....... however, I do find the GPS thing handy.

You can have my 13 Pioneer unit and swap to it, it has a dedicated AM/FM button for you.

Oh, yes ...... they can be distracting.

When we travel, I try to keep my sense of dead reckoning, read a paper map, listen to the Siri girl talking out of my wife's i-phone and the Garmin girl telling me where to go out of the HU GPS....... and mrs humfrz giving me directions ........ ALL AT THE SAME TIME ......... :mad0259:

How did we ever figure out where we were going ....... before all that ....... :iono:

On the Scion MY14 one I have in my '13 I don't have this problem. You can program AM/FM stations on the presets on the same screen, and I since they are right against the left edge I don't have any issues changing them without looking. Might just be a muscle memory thing for me.

I do agree in general though that the screens in the car can be an easy distraction. It is way too tempting to play with it while driving.

+1 Dadhawk. I can do the same thing on my '16, have all my presets for FM and AM in one list, and it helps. I will also agree that the lack of buttons and knobs on the later units makes no-look operation more difficult, and what few buttons are there are tiny and poorly spaced. I can appreciate that they tried to make on screen buttons as big as possible, but you can never replace the assurance you get from depressing an actual button with pressing one on a screen. Can you imagine if they did the same thing to the HVAC controls?

You can have AM and FM presets on the same list? Yes, that would help a lot! I didn't know that. Now I have to go play with it. Thanks!

Thanks, but no. That thing is ugly.

Sapphireho 09-20-2017 04:16 PM

Well, I put both AM and FM presets on the same list. Man, do I feel stupid now after scrolling thru those lists for AM and FM for over two and a half years! :bonk:
