Again, 1-2 times a year at most. I'm well aware of the consumables cost going up.:confused0068:
More of a factor if I wanted to keep it for a long time and do 3-4 events a year. Actually researched pads and rotors and tires. Costs almost the same as the Cayman (but would probably burn up 2-3 times as fast hehehe) |
If you're ok with fisher price level interior, C5 Z06 is an amazing deal. My old roommate had one, and that car feels so visceral
|
I've thought about those. And the horrible interior would just encourage me to strip and cage that bad boy hahaha.

@WolfpackS2k lightly used unmodified 2020 supra? :)
It literally drives like a modern s2k coupe. Even the dimensions are virtually identical. |

I'll break from (manual transmission) loyalty for a crazy ass V8.
Won't do the same for a BMW I6  Also @CSG Mike, is the CSG BRZ still for sale? |
Quote:
I'm a huge fan of the 4.0 TT. The CSG BRZ is not, but my BRZ is. I put a halt on the sale as the 2022 was coming out sooner than expected, but the car could be available for the right buyer anytime. |

Many folks purchase a supra to discover it's not for them. |
True... Thought you had one for sale or something. Way to rich for my blood anyways.

Upper limit of my budget is around $30k.
Definitely no lightly used Supras for anything close to that price. Also, again, wouldn't trade in my 3rd pedal love for a boosted I6. |

Or Used mustang GT with 6sp and performance pack... Should give you the best of both worlds Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk |
Thanks for suggestions, but:
1) Not a Mustang fan unless it's a GT350 (out of my price range). And I say this having driven a few. 2) I already own a FWD 300 hp hot hatch (my GTI). No reason to purchase another one. That and I have zero interest in tracking anything FWD. :party0030: |

C6 Grandsport!
Are you tethered to RWD? An Evo could be good. I liked the Focus RS as well but the rear diff potentially has some issues going into limp mode under hard track use. |

'08+ C6 Z51 or GS. But *damn* that interior is ugly...

E92 M3? M240i? Also mentioned Elise in last post, great little cars.

Yeah you might have to reach a bit further into the low 30's, but I've seen nice ones both nice shape track modded as well as nice shape stock in that range. Rod bearings in the E92's are fixable, but it's a 2-3k job upfront unless you find someone who has done it already (well documented). Can't beat them for all-around fun cars tho (and that motor!). Also you do realize we're all living vicariously through you lol  |
Haha, welcome to do it!
Yes I have seen that it can be done preventively, really isn't "that bad". Also it's pretty funny because before my brother bought the car I test drove it for him. Car was for sale in Raleigh (where I live) and my brother lives in Charlotte. Also the guy selling the car was a friend of a friend (how I found it for my brother), and I'm now good friends with that guy as well, haha. I know it's strange, but my only appeal for a large coupe/sedan is the C63 AMG because of it's crazy ass engine. Otherwise I have very little interest in anything that big (I know the M3 is about 300 lb lighter, but it's still a large vehicle to me). I should really hold off on a new car for a little while (prob should invest in the meantime) but I give into temptation + this pandemic is killing me (mentally) + shopping for a new fun car is fun + owning a new fun car and driving it often is a great mental release for me. Its possible I might really not like a C63 after owning one for some time, even though I barely scratched the surface with the one I drove on Monday and had an absolute riot of a time. So heavy, and just 2 pedals. But...I foresee their values going nowhere but up (next gen is going to be a 4 banger :mad0260: ) so now could be the time to get one. Take it to VIR 1-2 times, then if I'm over it then I can sell it for a 2nd gen BRZ. A few weeks ago I drove a '94 RX7. Price was $14k, had 139k miles, but it had been sitting a while, it's condition was 6.5/10, had ZERO maintenance records (current owner said previous owner spent $7000 on the engine, but didn't know what that entailed! Rebuild, new engine, performance mods? Guy literally didn't know lol)...and it had a salvage title. I thought about offering him $8000, but before I came up with a number he decided not to sell. |

Oh yikes 94 RX7. Love them. Was one of the first cars that really got me into high performance sports cars, never forget that first test drive - brand new R1, riding with the dealership manager, a really cool guy. Soooo glad I didn't buy one though, and I'm a big rotary fan. Lots of risk, even if well documented and maintained. The AMGs are definitely fun, I drove my friends C63 AMG Black a while back and that thing was a surprising hoot. His tires, not mine lol... We don't have to always commit to the purest track ethos - in reality we're stuck in traffic most of the time, and if lucky we're having a fairly restrained go on some back roads. Life is short, go with what you like, you can always sell/trade it and go with something else. Savor the excitement of a new car purchase! |

^^an Elise would be great. An Exige amazing (but way out of price range). And Evoras are also too expensive, plus their clutch jobs scare the crap out of me (basically split the car in 2 pieces to replace it).
^sorry I really just meant of late. Their infuriating iDrive systems, stupid turn signals, octagonal gauges (wtf?) and just bizarre styling. The BMW community as a whole I think is wonderful. Heck, I wasn't even referring to the "asshole" stereotype they have. Apologies for any confusion :-P |

1. NC3 Miata Club PRHT - This may be a weird suggestion, but I think it is an excellent one. NC3 is a larger inside than the ND generation, has decent power, is pretty damn quick, has great aftermarket support and in PRHT trim, it's not really a convertible. They make rollbars for the PRHT, and even with the weight increase (~2,600 lbs wet), you would still be lighter than almost every car on the road, including the GT86. 09+ cars has forged internals too, making the engine incredibly strong. People have no problem boosting them and they hold up to track work while FI too. 2. BMW 128i - This is going to be a really odd suggestion, but you can get these things for DIRT cheap. Most of the M3 components will bolt up, and the NA inline 6 (while not powerful) is pretty bulletproof. Consumables are fairly cheap, and OEM+ upgrades from the 135i and M models are available for cheap also. 3. Camaro V6 1LE - This probably doesn't need an explanation, but these things are utterly ridiculous on track. So much speed, for so little money. Best part? They need nothing to track hard at HPDE4+/instructor levels of speed. You can make okay power on the V6 w/ bolt ons and flex fuel and it revs pretty high. Definitely an option to put on your radar. |

Yup I second the v6 1LE. Really great track car and solid supercharger kits to add power down the road. Saw one for 26k lightly used on car gurus

If it's not gonna be a daily, Elise x1000. I get to go around the track in a lot of different cars, Elise stands out, it's the only car that made my S2000 feel like a barge in comparison!

Unfortunately we don't get the latest version, at least street legal. |
I daily my GTI (tuned for 300/350). Usage for a car being discussed in here would be for track use, mtn driving, and pleasure cruises (roughly 5,000 miles a year or less).
A friend of mine has an SS 1LE that I need to test drive. The small windows and horrible cockpit layout, however are pretty big turn offs at this point. I don't like the BMW 1 series, so they're out. That's not to say I don't appreciate their abilities though. One of my local friends (and track buddies) has built his high mileage (bought for one hell of a deal) 135i into quite a track beast. All gutted out, rollcage installed, pushing over 400 (reliable on track) hp on an E85 tune. I think he's getting a wing next. Though what he really needs is a brake upgrade - lol. He goes through rotors and/or pads every track weekend - car just destroys them. |
Lol@v6 Camaro.

The V6 Camaro w/ 1LE absolutely destroys our cars by an LOL 14+ seconds in car and drivers lightening lap competition (https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...storical-data/). Actually, it beats our cars by every single performance metric available. Lol indeed. |

I’d get a cheap used twin, you might even get one lightly modified too. Drive that around until the 2nd gen comes along, which you said you had interest in and then upgrade. Best of luck and glad to hear you got a good price for the Cayman.
