My 2003 celica gts was over $35k, 10 years ago and it certainly wasn't any better than the FRS.

(edit: too mean spirited)

how the hell did something cost that much in Canada 10 years ago?

I guess. Just seemed like we got shafted with the Corolla and Celica parts bin. Just would've been nice to have the 5x114.3. Sucks that both my cars can't even interchange wheels unless I get dual drilleds (which are usually lower end wheels). Oh well.

I think I am just going to go with these Wheel Adapters

wtf does that have to do with anything? Is the 86 only for America? no, stop spouting your ignorant crap.

Overreact much? Even 10 years ago, $18k US was never $35k CAN. And are you referring to base model, or GTS? For such an angry post, you certainly provide almost no information as to what you are citing. Is your blood sugar low or something?

As far as the 5x100 thing, I've seen a lot of wheel manufacturers making unique configurations lately with size and offset. I honestly think it's because of this car. With how popular this car is, they're trying to keep up with the demand

(scroll down for pricing) When you buy a car in Canada you use Canadian dollars, sorry I didn't realize this forum was only for American assholes!
New pricing for a 2003 Celica gts trd in Canada for those who seem to know more about this than me.

I've got nothing against our Canadian brethren , but if someone is trying to say we should be grateful for the FRS at it's $25k price point because 10 years ago someone bought a Celica GTS for $35k Canadian I'm gonna call BS.

pjb86 07-17-2013 04:01 PM

Call BS on what??
The frs cost me 26K canadian, The celica cost 9k more for less performance 10 damn years ago. The FRS is a great deal. Enough said!

How is something that's $18k in the US $35k in CN?

Did you bother to click the link or at least scroll down to the bottom of the article? $32-33k CAN, not even including markup as this was a popular car when it came out. $35k CAN is very possible.

Just to do some math...

For the month of July, 2003, the exchange rate was $1.39 CAN per USD. So, if you purchased your car in that month @ $32,965 CAN (just to give the lowest price for a GTS), it would be ~$23,716 USD. Still more than $5k over your claim. Congrats, here is your flag :bs:

FYI, $35k CAN was slightly over $25k USD.

But are the prices necessarily the same, just adjusted for exchange rate? I know a lot of products are priced somewhat higher overseas than the exchange rate alone would predict. I don't know how the prices compare, but it's not sufficient argument to just look up a US to Canadian dollar conversion and say "If this car cost $xx,xxx in Canada, it cost $yy,yyy in the US because that's $x canadian = $y US the exchange rate", you'd need to look at what the actual sticker price was in both countries. Unfortunately, a cursory google search didn't turn up the original 2003 Celica GTS sticker price in the US, so I can't compare it.

Exchange rates are everything, the Yen caused this car's price to be raised almost $5k from inception. There is talk that Subaru may take the twins market share by expanding the Indiana plant, if they do they will effectively take Scion out of the market saving a huge percentage in exchange. Also talk that this would be a graceful out for Toyota to let Scion go the way of Saturn.
