Hm... interesting but still IDK specially this quote

Quote:

If all goes to plan, production will commence in the spring of 2012 at a Subaru production plant in Japan.
LOL No offense to Auto Blog, but what is "If all goes to plan"... What isn't "If all goes to plan". :iono:

Sry but no one knows jack squat about this car, and we all know it. Toyota has this under wraps so well just like the new camry

enc0re 04-12-2011 06:32 PM

The Camry secrecy impresses me even more. How are they managing to keep their volume seller in the U.S. this quiet? It's literally getting released this year!

Got any links? I know it's supposed to be completely redesigned from the 07 model.

That's the thing. We think the FT-86 is under super wraps? No info, no specs, no nothing except 1 spy shot vid.

New Camry? Zero, zilch, nada, except it's being redesigned this year.

I hear ya! The FT is a much more anticipated Toyota compared to the Camry because it's completely brand new and designed from the ground up. The Camry though, completey redesigned is already established so there isn't really too much to announce or expect. Now if they went from a FWD to a RWD like the ol skook Toy Sedans then there would be some talking! :bellyroll:

Not really, Camry is a major seller for Toyota, it practically dominates it's segment in the industry. So i mean yeah it's nothing to be excited about, but it is something that people want to see, hint at, anything because of the market implications. Kind of like the Lexus LF-Ghs concept

Did we ever discuss if this could be both a Scion and a Toyota? (I still think making this a Scion will just cannibalize tC sales...)

Toyota Camry/Lexus ES as an example.

enc0re 04-13-2011 12:21 AM

No way. Too niche. The Camry and ES are the voluminest [sic] vehicles of Toyota America's lineup. That's the only reason it can work. Same with their other high volume multi-brand platforms.

That's what I don't get about making it a Scion, when they already have an inexpensive coupe, whereas Toyota has nothing of the sort.

I think it would require a big price buffer. The ES is $10k more than the top trim Camry so the two cars wouldn't effect the others sales.

IMO the only way a Scion and Toyota version can co-exist is if the Scion is a bare-bones version and the Toyota is spec'd up standard so there's a difference between the cars and their price..

But then, where does the Subaru fit in? Granted we are to believe the reports that Subaru has confirmed U.S. availability.

I really don't think they'll release 3 versions of the same car because the production and advertising cost.

Dimman 04-13-2011 12:46 AM

This is mostly just automatic, reflexive 'anything but a Scion' talk from me. I'm slooooowly beginning to accept the potential possibility of having to walk into a Scion dealer for this thing...

(Pending whatever Subaru's doing, but I'm preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.)

Archer256 04-13-2011 02:32 PM

If the rumors of the IS being based on this as well as possibly the GS...i dont see it being a toyota and scion.

but then again i dont think toyota wants any more lexus models than the ES being based off a toyota

The GS has it's own platform and the IS is based on that. In other words "unpossible" .

And your second sentence is part of the reason why.

Archer256 04-13-2011 05:51 PM

They can combine styling elements of the 86 and the GS, i wasnt talking about the chassis.
