I did the five pin relay to four pin relay switch. It worked a treat. No more daytime running lights!

Im curious if anyone knows how to make the the turn signals work as ONLY turn signals. I would like them to stay turned off while the lights are on, and only flash when I'm using the turn signals. Is this possible?

(I know this is a different issue, but figured someone here might have the same dislike as i do)

i havent looked at the turn signals but are they 3 wire or 2 wire system? if they are 3 wire then you can simply cut the "running" wire.

Ill have to take a look next time i have the bumper off. or maybe somewhere online is a diagram? ill do some googling

Edit: Found some photos online that show 3 wires. Red/black/green. Red + and black - right? So cut green?

take the bulb out and put a piece of electrical tape on the half of the bulbs bas so one of the filaments do not get power. or just purchase a 7440 single filament bulbto replace the 7443 you currently have

I actually decided to go the 7440 bulb route already anyway after reading about that somewhere else! Figured thats better than permanently cutting wires. Thank you though! :)

Ok, I hate DRL ( Day time running lights )

So let's turn them off.

It's very simple to do, Just remove the DRL Resistor. Makes the car just that much lighter as well! lol

1. So, access the Front Right Lower panel.

2. Undo the clips and bolt pictured.
(Peel back)

3. Locate DRL Resistor connector
Unplugg and tape up.

4. Remove DRL Resistor

5. Put back together.

Simple.

Here you go! DRL is turned off but high beam function stays intact. Sorry for the poor iPhone 4 (not even an S!) pic.

Awesome fix to this ugly feature. It took me five min. Love this forum.

I hate DRLs. Thanks for the pics to help me disconnect them.

I hate them for another reason. When you saw a headlight on in the daytime in the past it was almost always a motorcycle. Now they just get lost in the sea DRLs.

No rhyme or reason from Toyota -my 13 Corolla had DLRs and full auto lights, my 15 Corolla had selectable DLRs and lights.

I'm surprised that they implemented a resistor unit on the 86 to get DRL functionality. On most Toyotas, for DRL they simply run the high beam bulbs in series so that way each bulb gets around half of its nominal voltage (6-7V instead of 12-14V). I guess I find it surprising that they added a resistor unit on a car that's supposed to be lightweight (albeit the difference is negligible) instead of using Toyota's usual bulb-in-series design.

So when i’m Running from the cops and want to turn off all light and pull off onto a side road I can do this now with this fix?

ermax 02-20-2019 02:02 PM

You can also disable the DRLs with Techstream or the Carista app.
