it could be a bad cam gear. They are known to go bad and sound like a rod knock. Also, check for an ejected rocker. Sometimes this causes an oil leak because it will crack the valve cover.

Found the problem. One of the hoses that goes on the solenoid valve under the the intake manifold was barely on the barb. I pushed it up tight and the problem is solved. Thanks for all the help.

Sorry about tbe rod. I thought adding a crank case vacuum pump wojld solve the problem. It usually seals everything up nicely and seals rings tighter to cylinder walls

The knock was coming from the broken intake cam sprocket.
