Bro that sucks! That is not ordering the car the way you want and you still have to come up with $1000 for the deposit? Find another dealer. It should be $500 refundable deposit and then you order the car in your name with what you want on it.

you should never have to pay more than $500 for a deposit.

It's not a pre-order. I went to the dealership and put down a $250 deposit. That gets me on the waiting list (#7 at my local dealer). The dealership can't order from Subaru America yet, but once they can I will need to put down another $750 so they can place an order. Then once they acutally start gutting them in they go down the list in order and the first person to answer and say yes to the color/trim they have gets it.
