IAmNotTheDriftKing's FR-S
Thought I might as well do one of these just for fun. So yeah.
So here is my car, or what it was like. Nice and stock. So let us begin the modding!!! This isn't really going to be the craziest of build threads, but the plan is to have a daily driver that can be driven on the track and can handle an autocross really well! ![]() Exhaust System: Now, for an autocross car the exhaust note won't really help it go faster, but I decided to attack the exhaust first. Good choice cause the car sounded too mild for it's own good. ![]() It was a good exhaust, I would recommend it to anyone that only wants a catback. There were a few problems. I didn't like how it looked, and it droned a lot. It was really loud for just a catback. So I got rid of it. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQfgDM4IEm4"]Scion FR-s Invidia N1 exhaust - YouTube[/ame] Then after that I decided to go with my original choice, but because I have heard it is really quiet I thought I would give it a bit more pep. So I got a Perrin catback with a Motiv Concepts frontpipe with HFC and overpipe. Oh man, does it sound good. The Perrin midpipe keeps things quiet while driving normal but once you decide to go WOT, the exhaust really opens up! I cannot recommend the Perrin catback enough. The Motiv piece is just as high quality and it feels pretty strong as well. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HwuYx7WAZo"]Scion FRS exhaust sound, Perrin Catback with Motiv Concepts high flow cat - YouTube[/ame] Headers: ![]() Finally decided on headers. Went with JDL. Best choice for sure. Not only is the quality great but so is the warranty! LIFETIME!!! Just look at them. Shame that they have to go under the car. Have another shot for your enjoyment! ![]() After installing them, I pretty much creamed my pants a little. The car sounds FANTASTIC!! Will it make as much power as EL headers? No, probably not. Am I okay with that? Yes, the 3 or 4 horsepower I lose isn't to big of a deal. Espessially when you concider that the car sounds like this!!! [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUqcHW3APgA"]Scion FRS JDL UEL Headers Exhaust Sound! - YouTube[/ame] Now after a day or so of driving, I decided to go and check to make sure the header wasn't hitting anything. Good thing I did. Cause it was. It was ever so slightly touching the oil pan. I was a bit worried at first, but JDL said they would be making me a new one no problem. Hopefully it will be shipping soon. I will update when I get the new ones! Once I decide to get a tune(soon), all this should help get the car up to 190whp or more! May be optimistic, but I have seen a few dynos with people using these headers to get up to 200whp!!!

I love my perrin, researching the exhausts while deployed, fell in love with the Perrin tone much more. IT is not obnoxious and has enough tone to let you know its there. Sounds the best with UEL in my opinion. You got the resonated model right? That is key to keeping the sound down with the full Header back.

Guess what I installed a few days ago! Some JDL UEL headers! Dear lord do they sound good.
There is only one problem, and that is that they touch the oil pan at one point. Apparently if you double up the gaskets it will clear it no problem. Other than that, the headers fit beautiful. There is space from the oil pan from all the runners, and the welds and quality is top notch. I would recommend it to anyone. Last edited by IAmNotTheDriftKing; 01-19-2014 at 09:22 PM. |
