What will happen to the aftermarket for this car after the engine bump?
I was wondering one day about our cars. We all know eventually, there's going to be a better version with a bigger engine/or a turbo or something similar. My question is, what will happen to the aftermarket for our 13'/14' cars when the new model comes out with this? Will they still develop aftermarket parts for our cars, or move on to the new engine'd fr-s/brz?
This might be a dumb thing to ask, but I was just curious. This is the first car I've bought and have done these sort of modifications to, so I'm not familiar with what happens after a couple years. It amazes me that the aftermarket for this car became so huge so fast in the first place!

![]() ![]() Headers, exhaust, tunes, superchargers, turbos, intakes ect. I'm not saying there couldn't be more, but with all those in just a little over a year over production has me not only impressed, but happy that I can stay busy with a 300+ horspower car and many ways to get there. I think a bigger engine could possibly stop the engine from going further (cams, stroker, ext), but we have some great options so far that I don't see going away. |

I don't think aftermarket support for our cars would go away if a hotter engine is put in the twins in a year or three. Look at the Miata for example. When they came out in 1990 they had a 1.6L engine making 116 hp. In 94 Mazda put a 1.8L engine in the Miata making another 12 hp, and the hp went up again in 1996 and again in 1999. There is still plenty of aftermarket support for the early 1.6L engines in the Miata, 20 years since they last put that engine in the Miata. I don't think we have anything to worry about. If there is a demand for parts, companies will make them for us.

Wow. Ok, the articles i've read said that the Scion FR-S IS NOT getting the power increase. Only the Toyota 86 will be getting it.
Where are people reading that the Scion FR-S is also getting the power increase? Please post a link. |

If this car lasts more than a few years then surely it will get a power increase at some point. |

I won't lie. It is tempting to drive down the street to Full Blown Motor with about $6K in my pocket.. But I keep telling myself that stock is good enough for now... |

My theory; stock is boring, I like to make my vehicles unique. I've NEVER owned a stock vehicle and I've had quite a few.

What car can you think of that hasn't made improvements as model years progressed. It's just part of owning a car. If you keep waiting for what's coming out better next year you'll never buy a car.

If the FRS get a midyear refresh on the engine, I hope the redline stays the same.

If they come out with a powertrain slightly different and it proves to be poop. Our cars will definitely in a good spot.

but aren't all the powertrain increases just rumors at this point? i don't believe i've understood any of it to be confirmed as factual yet..
and with the looming fleet mpg standards coming up, i'm not sure that toyota/subaru is willing to up the engine size at the cost of their fleet average for such a low production car...

What if they downsize it and add a turbo ala ford ecoboost?
