Question Question?

http://vtecf.tw/fr-s/first-year-issues/

Honestly this Honda lover that owns this site has brought something to my attention. Would you say that the FRS/BRZ/GT86 has had more problems than are normal for a first year car? and is it good idea for me to still buy one used or new right now? I honestly love the car after test driving it, and I'm just afraid of something exploding on me after looking over the forum if I want to say add a header back exhaust or mod something on it I feel unsafe. Will the 2014 model be any better?

It seems the biggest problems were in the early releases. As problems became obvious, steps were made to correct them. The later the build date the better your chances are for a trouble free car. Mine was built in August 2012 and the only single problem I've had was the rattle coming from the package shelf area and that has been fixed by Scion.

I would say beyond a doubt to buy a new one over used. Our car attracts a lot of fan boyz that like to drive 'em like they stole 'em and I would not take a chance on buying one of those used. If it is your plan to do the same then used should be o.k.

As a dedicated Honda owner since 1991, I can tell you that my FR-S has so far been completely trouble free and comparable in quality to all of the Accords/Civics/Fits/Odysseys that I have owned. Mine was built in May 2013. No chirping, CELs, or any other problems so far. The only odd thing I've noticed is a bit of a clunk from the rear axle when I back out and then put it into 1st gear. But I assume this is just normal for the Torsen LSD. I wouldn't consider it a problem at all.

If you look hard enough you will find posts like these for every car out there (including cars like Accord, Camry, Civic, Sonata, Elantra, Gensesis Coupe, GTI, etc). Lemons exist. It happens.

If you are not confident buying the car, don't. Either wait or buy something else. But there will always be people posting on forums about problems no matter the car.

I would also agree that if you are deciding new or used, go for new as you would know how the car will be driven.

Thanks for that, but I am a fan boy as well and will probably go WOT when ever there's a chance . I also must ask this, if an FR-S is sitting in the dealership lot, do they perform maintenance on it? Not really maintenance but are all the TSB applied to the car, if they see condensation do they wait for someone to buy it then fix it later on? or is it already fixed while its sitting there by someone who checks there stock?

Personally I wouldn't trust they would have enough experience with a used car to know what TSB's it might or might not need. They would probably clean it, buff it out and stick it on their used lot. I know that thought might be a little pessimistic but I've always figured a pessimist was a well informed optimist.

Thanks for this info I will wait another month or two I'm not in any rush currently just want to haggle for the best deal possible now that I'm set on it. Would you or anyone happen to know when orders for 2014 start?

The first production run cars seem to be the ones with teething problems.
Those have been sold long ago.

Bought mine the second of March and recently had the 7.5k service done.
My production number (VIN) is up in the 18k range, so they've sold a few by now.
No problems to report.
I don't recall any major deal busters being included for the MY '14 models.

I don't think the Japanese plants have as much variability with Wed. or Fri. cars as Detroit did.

I was just at my dealership, talking to my sales gal, Friday and though they're not certain they think the cars will be available in September. If some changes I'm hoping for are made in the new model I will be trading. If not, I'm very happy with what I've got.

In case you haven't bought a Scion before, there is no haggling with price. Of course if you have a trade-in that could require a little work.

Yes I was aware of the no haggling thing with there stupid "Pure Price" crap, but if the cars are sitting there when the new orders are coming in you think they would be willing to take off even $500?
