Price of a Used FR-S
So I was searching around for used cars and came across a used stock FR-S automatic and the dealer wants 24,000 for a used FR-S with 17,000 miles.
Does it make sense for the dealer or buyer who's aware of the market price to sell/buy car knowing what a new one costs? Are the dealers that insane or stupid that someone could buy a used car for essentially for the price of new car? |

demand is high, and pure price keeps the resale value way up. All scions hold value because of this.

Even though, customer knows that they can buy a new car? I don't know how dealers work, but as a buyer, I would look at that. Why buy used, when you can buy new for few extra bucks?

With the used car, you can haggle that price down whereas if you buy a new one, you are probably going to be paying at least MSRP. I am sure the dealer posted it at $24k knowing they would have to go down on the price to sell it.

Back in the early 70's, a one-two year old 240z would bring MORE than the original asking price. Example, used 1970 240z, re-sold in 1973 for $4000, about 15% more than sticker. Source, Japanese Nostalgic Car magazine.
If one has to back out of the FR-S/BRZ, they shouldn't be off too bad if they have to sell. Eric G |

A local dealer had a used FR-S on the lot when I was purchasing. It had 5200 miles on it and they wanted $ 500 less than the original window price (which was still in the dash). I offered them 22k for it. In my eyes, it's used. It's been titled. You have no idea how well or roughly treated it was during break in period.
If you're searching.. just buy a new one. And buy one from a different dealer if they won't haggle on the used one. That's what I did - no regrets. If you're financing it, 1500 or so isn't going to make much of an impact on payments, etc.

I paid 22.5k for my 6spd firestorm with 10k miles, but it was the only one withing 300 miles that was used and not sticker or above sticker price

The price has to be high enough that the dealer can profit from it, but low enough that you would still want to buy the used car over a new one. If they sold it for $20k, they would probably lose money on it (they probably bought it from the original owner for $23k or so), and if they price it at $25k, no one would buy a used one over a new one.

I noticed in my area most used FR-S are priced => new!!!!
I test drove a used FR-S that was automatic and had 2.5k miles and they wanted 27.5K for it. Worst part was paint had several large chips and one 2.5 inch gash in it that showed all the way down to the metal. Freaking used car dealers are real @sshats. |

I always look at it this way, the dealer knows that the customer walking in is always going to haggle the price, but for what its worth they will make money no matter what. Dealers make more money on the service than they do on the cars on the lot.
I talked to the dealer that was selling it hes not wanting to negotiate, but I'm patient, not desperate. |
