MidnightMonkey's MT Whiteout FR-S Thread!
A month ago, I put a $500 deposit on a MT Whiteout FR-S. On August 23rd, she finally arrived!
I've followed this car from the concept stage, like most of you, and have garnered an unrequited love for it ever since. Well, that was until three days ago...*****HER BODY, OH DEAR GOD***** A buddy of mine rode along with me to the dealership Friday afternoon. He expected it to be just another sporty Toyota. Being (formerly) a huge fan of Jeep, I don't think he was nearly as enthusiastic as I was - until we walked behind the sales floor to check her out. The door barely had time to close behind him before he fell back onto it with his phone in one hand and the other over his mouth. The only thing said for the next 5 minutes was a muffled "Oh my god, man, your car is so FRESH!" I walked around her a good five or six times taking in the curves, the lines, the stance. I had the hugest shit-eating grin on my face. It's still kinda there actually. I was completely speechless. These cars look ridiculously aggressive in person. They're SO LOW. That front end looks like its ready to eat babies. The rear gives off a properly arrogant 'see-ya later'. I was thoroughly surprised and completely enchanted. ![]() *****DR. GONZO IS SPILLED HIS COKE***** *****IT'S WHATS ON THE INSIDE THAT COUNTS***** After the initial walk around, we went back inside and sat around for a little while. The woman that arranged the order of the car (and fought tooth and nail to get me what I wanted, when I wanted it) was busy selling a Taco to a couple. Good choice random dude. I've always had a fondness for PreRunners. Anyways, we sat for about 20 minutes. My logic was that the car was mine, so I can be patient as long as it takes. Well, the logic finally broke down. I walked across the room and politely interrupted. I gave the saleswoman a complement on her customer service and then demanded the keys. She chuckled a little and went away to find them. I seriously almost pissed my pants in anticipation waiting the 30 seconds or so it took for her to come back. She tossed them to me, and my buddy and I ran outside. When I sat down in the driver's seat, I couldn't believe how perfectly it felt. The seats pull you in with the bucket and keep you there with the bolsters. Everything is in perfect reach and the gauge cluster, shifter, pedals, and parking brake are so ergonomic for someone that's 5'8, it's as if Toyota built it with us in mind. My friend was eager for a ride so I pushed in the key in the ignition and turned her over. Baby Jesus, Tom Cruise, this girl can sing! We both trembled a little just listening to her get ready for some action. We took off down the highway to a subdivision that runs behind the dealership for some quick cul-de-sac fun, and came right back. My heart was beating a thousand times a minute and I never pushed her over 3500RPM. *****THE BEGINNING OF A TRUE ROMANCE***** I traded in my former mistress, signed the papers, and headed out of town for the night. My friend actually considered calling in for two days to make the trip to Charlotte with me, but I wouldn't let him. I asked him, "How the hell do you think you'll ever buy one of these if you don't get a paycheck?" I'm fairly certain he agreed whole-heartily. It's about 250 miles from where I live to where I needed to be, which was perfect for half my break-in. On the interstate, I realized how connected I felt with the car and the road. I'd never driven anything before this that's ever made me feel at one, working in sync with the car, with the asphalt. She cuts corners like butter, she shifts amazingly, she begs to be driven through the entire power band, and she DEMANDS more throttle. All of which I'm proud to abide. I can't help but to feel almost like I'm flying when I drive this car. I should call up my friend in Seattle and see if he can make a pilots licence for this thing. I honestly feel like I need one. The interior should be labeled a cockpit in the owners manual. The whole experience is something I'll never be able to convey in words, regardless of how well I can write. If you're lucky enough to proudly own this seductive masterpiece of mechanical engineering, I think you'll stand by me in saying it doesn't get much better than this. I've driven a lot of cars in my short time on this planet, from HMMWV to Lamborghini, but this one has completely stolen that fluttery thing in my chest. Toyota, you guys delivered the purest driver's car I've ever experienced and I applaud you for it. Someone call my wife and tell her I've found someone new.![]() ================================================== ================================= *****REBADGED ON DAY 1***** ![]() ![]() ================================================== ================================= [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzTTx__QRcg&feature=player_detailpage"]FRS (GT86, BRZ) vs Genesis Coupe vs Lotus Elise - Pacific Coast Highway Road Trip Review - YouTube[/ame] ================================================== ================================= 28AUG12 With work being what it is, and staying up late the past few nights to study for what's to be a grueling exam, I haven't had time to do a whole lot. I've noticed the interior to this car is ridiculously scratch prone. My cousin just barely grazed his flip flop, yes, flip flop, on the glove box and left a nice scratch :/ if anyone has any input on how to make it a lot less noticeable, fill me in PLEASE. I think it's about time to order those rubber 86 floor mats too. Set the RPM shift light to 7200 and initialized the economic shift display which is going to remain on for the remainder of the break-in. So far the ODO is at 559. Not too much longer . I've noticed a few things though:1. When you engage the economic shift display, it seems a little odd. Like wanting you to shift into 5th at around 38MPH??? Or 6th @ 45??? Just seems like that would wear the tranny if you ask me. But I'm not a mechanical engineer, so what the F do I know? Anyone have any input on this??? Finally tweaked my bone stock stereo to where I think it sounds best for 320kbps MP3 playback through the USB port. Sets the sound stage and dimensional reference about as good as it's gonna get with the back speakers being absolute crap and the tweeters shouting against the windshield. Here's what I've got: SSP: Natural Fader: R3 Balance: 0 Bass: 4 Treble: 1 ASL: High ================================================== =================================
