Help choosing a wheel color
Hi all.
So I have a base track bRed model, and I'm getting RCC SS1s and 18x8.5 rims. I decided on the Enkei TSVs since I think that rims styling matches the GR86 very well (smooth lines, nothing 'jaggedy'). What I can't decide is the color. Each has its pros and cons. 1. I have the most to gain and the most to lose with bronze. 2. Black is nothing special anymore but it'll still look nice and won't look bad 3. Silver is something in between. I posted three photoshopped pics, it shows as 17 inch rims, just imagine the car 1 inch lower and on 18x8.5s. Bronze could be a 10/10 since it's unique and could look really cool. But it could clash with the red, making it look bad. Black will pretty much be guaranteed to look nice, but it won't be anything to write home about. But it's also gloss, which I like, and it matches the rest of the trim on the car. And silver is somewhere in between. It can look really nice, but not unique. But it may look too flashy and take away from the beautiful red. I really cannot make up my mind. Anyone would like to add their personal onions? Thanks. |

Personally I'd go with silver. Like you said black is overplayed now, I don't see it as anything special. All those "special edition" compact cars like nightshade edition corollas took away some of the cool factor, imo. As for bronze, I personally think Red and maybe Yellow are the worst matches. Bronze looks incredible on black, white, green, and of course subaru blue. Just my two cents!
Ultimately it's your choice though. Choose what speaks to you. |

My choice for a red car would be silver.
Sorry for sidetracking, but how does the car compare to your turbo? Did you sell the yellow one? |

I did end up selling it. Honestly I can’t give an accurate comparison since I’m still keeping this car under 4k rpm. So far the 2022 gr86 has more low end torque than a boosted 2015 FRS. Throttle feels more immediate too, but that’s to be expected with turbo lag.

Black is low-key. I like low-key.
Bronze on white or green...maybe blue, but not this shade of red. Silver can be good. If it comes down to silver or black, maybe consider splitting it down the middle...a graphite or gunmetal looks good on bright red paint, too.

Black
Much as OP said. There is not enough chrome on the car to set silver off and bronze only works with certain non red colours. The black will work with the black trim instead of clashing with it. Not sure how black is "overplayed" when 95% of stock wheels are silver

Especially “performance” cars. And if not black, then gloss black with machined accents, the ultimate worst. |

1. Silver (classic wheel colour, never goes out of style)
2. Bronze (can look good in the right colour combo) . . . . . . . . . . 3. Black (if you must, but it is so overdone today - black rims tend to disappear in the wheel wells and look cheap to me). Edit - these particular rims look alright in black, better than the stock gen 2 rims at least. Black can look OK if the spokes are thin and narrow, it is the heavier, thicker rim designs in particular which look bad in black. Probably because they remind me of old steel wheels from the 80s and 90s, when the base rims on economy cars where black painted steelies. |
