Toyota Remote Connect app

Anybody got it working ? I need to activate as per dealer instruction, but the protocol using the SOS button just doesn't work. VIN registers and enrollment already done.

Thanks,

My parents just got a 2022 Corolla Hatchback, activate the date of purchase at dealer store.

But the remote lock/unlock/engine start took 3 tries between phone APP and in-car APP.
It says activation successful each time but still cannot control over phone APP. Finally worked after a week.

Have not tried yet, but my sales guy said I must download the Toyota app and register as a user. I asked why? He said for the SOS and other features.

so that after the trial period runs out, they can charge you a monthly access fee, of which the dealer will get a kickback i'm sure.

The fee they will be charging is only for remote start. Well... so far at any rate.

At $80 a year I doubt there is much kickback to the dealer.

Not sure how registering an app suddenly turns into a conspiracy theory anyway.

Kind of reminds me of OnStar and Sirius where you always get some free trial period when you buy an equpped new or used car. I'll use it for that period, then not renew.

Frankly, I wouldn't pay $0.01 for a year's worth of remote start. I can't think of a single time when I would want to do that (well outside when MomHawk locks her keys in the trunk but we have an alternate solution for that).

I would think that the remote start is pretty much popular only in the colder climates.
I would love to have it!

Spoke with Toyota Canada 2x, the SOS button guy (the app tells you to call them), the road assist lady, and some tech support person...and the GR86 is nowhere to be found in their system, nor is it possible to activate the services for the app at this time, FYI.

just a few weeks ago, i thought toyota had been starting to discontinue the cell-tower functions of their vehicles because they were all on the 3g networks, which is being sunsetted in febuary.

We have it on our Venza and I will say it’s great for locking if you forget if you locked the car or not, also it tells you how much gas that you have in the vehicle. We do use the remote start but I’m sure it depends on climate for most people.

I could not get the app activated with Toyota, but I took time to read the fine prints and in no way is there a use for me for the car to send continuous sensor data to Toyota. You can easily revoke the rights for that to happen within the app and live happily ever after.

Thanks,
I got into the exact same situation. Pushing SOS button didn't work at all.

You have a really good point on that one. They don’t need to know that I drive like a maniac in my fun sports car. I will definitely put that into consideration!
