Keep a spare key battery in the glove box.
My first one lasted four years and they are supposed to last only two.

You can start the car without a battery even in the fob. Hold the fob next to the PTS button, and push the button with the fob as you would with your finger.

Just like it tells you to do in the owners manual.

I'm the type that likes to try to figure it out, and then if I can't, go to the manuals. haha

I read my manual cover-to-cover the night after getting the car. I always do that, otherwise how do find out the little quirks and hidden things about your car?

But I bet your first step isn't to go ask the Internet. I read the manual for everything so I don't waste time trying to figure it out.
