Winter Driving experiences. .
Hey everyone, I'm STRONGLY considering a Twin for my next car. It would be my daily driver. Anyone have issues driving in snow/slush?
I was thinking invest in some blizzaks, I drive 30 miles to get to work (mostly highway) and the Winters here are brutal. Thanks Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk |

Get it. They're fun in the winter. Snow tires are a must. Mount 'em on some cheap steelies and go for it.

Yup, definitely get the blizakks. The stock skinny Prius tires are terrible in the winter. I tried it last year and I almost ended up on the opposite lane despite driving slowly and avoiding sudden accelerations.

![]() Yep, like said, get some snow tires and drive slowly. Heck, most of us old timers have driven many ah mile with rear wheel drive cars ...... with 65% of the weight in the front; no ABS; no ESC; no TC; no LS differential; bias ply tires ....... and did I mention it was up hill both ways. The FR-S is quite predictable on slick roads. humfrz |

RWD has a tendency to be unpredictable in some cars. I have friends with RWD cars that are slightly heavier and they don't run winters and do fine. I also know a few people who can't get out of the street without having trouble. I know some RWD cars do better than others. Just wanted the opinion of an actual owner that's why I asked.

If you aren't committed to getting winter tires for this car, don't even bother buying it. Stock tires are beyond terrible in any significant amount of snow. I found a guy parting out '03 WRX wheels with Winter Force tires already on for $200. If nothing else, look for some cheap wheels, then go get some decent winter tires mounted. Or just buy a WRX or STI and be done with it.Still might have to get winter tires for those too though, but at least you'll have more control with AWD.

If you need to drive this car in winter, you need winter tires. Period. The stock tires suck in any type of snow. Weight in the trunk and good throttle control helps tremendously as well.
As for AWD, yes it helps, but it is not a cure-all. Most people have winter setups for those as well. Having said that, I have a daily driver forester and it is pretty much unbeatable for almost any situation. |
