What if Toyota release an higher performance model of the 86/FRS but instead of supercharger or turbo charging, it went with a hybrid drive train that provides more power and even better fuel economy. Despite being 10% heavier, but offer much better straightline performance and still the same great handling. Would you still buy it?

Nope. I feel the etechnology is still developing too rapidly to pay a premium for it.

I would be interested in a sealed regenerative energy unit like kers, but tech is no where near ready.

Toyota will have no problem producing such car, but at what price? Remember, FRS is meant to be cheap & affordable.

Toyota could produce a Prius C and Honda could produce a CRZ, I don't see how they can't add a smaller pack of battery and a motor in between the engine and gearbox. a higher performance model should be at least 10k more expensive compared to the based car. With a higher tuned version of the FA20 and equipped with electric motor to boost HP and Torque, I can see it having 250-280HP combined and possible 50% more torque, but at a penalty of about 100kg increase in weight.

Remember, Toyota do have experience using their Hybrid tech to increase performance. ie GS450h and LS600h.

I'd rather see them do it with the MR2 platform first. Call it the ER2, or something. Keep it small, affordable, and a 2-seater, ie not a 2+2.

I'd hate if they release a higher performance model and do this. I am against hybrids at the moment. Sure, they save gas, but they DO NOT save the environment.

I laugh a little inside when I see a celebrity talk about their Prius. The benefit of the Prius is to save the owner money on gas, which a fkn celebrity does not need. The fact that they think they are doing good for the environment is a joke.

The battery packs do more damage to the environment to produce before the car ever reaches its owner than a standard gasoline engine powered vehicle can do in hundreds of thousands of miles worth of driving.

Personally I don't really care for hybrids. I can see the market for it though like the CRZ. I remember hearing a rumor of the new Evo being some sort of hybrid. I died a little inside when I read that. lol

Thats just me though.

10% heavier = no dice. A 3000lb BRZ/FR-S is pointless. If I wanted a 3000+lb car that went faster in a straight line I'd buy a Mustang or something else. I don't see what the fascination is with trying to get the FT to go straight faster.

Give me a Supercharged FA25 making 280-300hp that's at most 50-75lbs heavier.

The only "hybrid" I would be interested in regardless of car would be an electric drive hybrid, similar to the VOLT but without the huge battery pack. Either a fuel cell (hydrogen) or gas "generator" providing current to electric motor(s).

I don't care if it plugs in or not, so no large battery pack required, probably just large enough batteries to provide consistent power, and reserves for acceleration.
