Just watched the video about the Torsen LSD and saw these as well:
Aerodynamics of the FR-S:
Also the D-4S technology explained:

Interesting. So DI vs port isn't just load dependent, it also varies in output depending on piston position?
That will make tuning fun... |

So, absolutely no substance to the aero video. Just "These are aero parts. THey make the car go better!" I was hoping for more.
The animator for the second video has no idea how a 4 stroke engine works...

I had no idea the "aerodynamics" were so involving to the design of the car. To me it just looks like a sporty 2 door coupe..

^ haha agreed. The commentator sounded like he was reading from flash cards, and the info was aimed at kids in a science fair.

So this video says it only uses the DI at high speeds yet the other Toyota videos I've seen said it uses DI only at mid speeds and both DI and port again at high speeds. They are probably going off of the documentation for the previous generation D-4S.

Those are just Toyota 86's with Scion emblems pasted on. They probably did this so as not to confuse any simpleton Scion employees

that aero vid is all marketing. I'm getting ready to buy the CAD drawings of the FR-S for CFD modeling, and have had the car reviewed by folks that work in ALMS and sport car series as an aero engineer. The FR-S is no different than most cars on the road today. An aero engineer says what is optimal, then the style designers make it "look cool" - which effectively screws up the aero package.
Maybe I am too performance minded, but it made me chuckle when they said their design reduces downforce to improve fuel mileage at high speed. :P

Well, there is truth to it. Rolling resistance drag increases linearly with weight (the force down on the road). Add'l downforce would thus increase rolling resistance drag which would decrease fuel economy.
As long as the shape doesn't create lift for better fuel economy, we're alright.
