Ticking/Clicking rear left

Hey guys, I'm a bit disappointed to announce my FR-S is having issues. As the subject says, the rear left is ticking under acceleration. However, it doesn't seem to be the same noise most people are posting about. This ticking I can only hear during hard acceleration at low speed and low rpm's, in 1st or 2nd gear. This ticking also increases rate as the speed increases but then fades away rather quickly. It does not make noise at any other time.
It started yesterday on my drive home from college with lots of baggage loaded in the car. Today, with the car unloaded, I was able to replicate the sound only once, when turning right out of my neighborhood and hitting the gas pretty hard. Anyone know what this is?

Well, I'll guess .......

If the "ticking" (pinging) is actually coming from the engine, it could be that you are lugging it ....... and/or you got hold of some low octane gas .....

I wish that were the case, but like I said it's coming from the rear left side, it's loud and clear with the window down..

Busted CV joint. Lots of weight compressed the rear suspension. CV joints don't handle torque as well when they're operated at an angle.

Yep, I do believe ol @Ultramaroon got it pegged (warn if not busted C/V joint(s)).

I would suggest you have a dealer (or local shop) check them out.

Let us know what you find out.

If it goes from "ticking" to "clicking", it won't be long before it goes to "clanking" ....... followed by one last loud "clank"....

Axle.

At some point you'll hear it more prominently.

Is your car lowered? Lowering these cars too much tends to be hard on the CV joints.

Loose axle nut. I had the same exact issue that was revolved by removing the rear hubs (for extended stud installation) and then reinstalling and recrimping the axle nuts. Clicking has been gone for 10k miles. There's a thread about it someplace.
