I got a quote from my dealer for extended warranty: $1600 for 7 yrs 100k miles with zero deductible. Do you guys think it's a good deal?

Extended warranties in general are a ripoff. Do some research online regarding who the provider is, what it covers, and how likely/unlikely you are to actually see ANY benefit from it. $1,600 in present value equates to a lot of repair work 5+ years in the future. I personally refuse to purchase them on principle, but to each his own. These companies are in the market to make a profit, and generally make it extremely difficult to approve a claim, requiring substantiation of ALL service records and other misc items that will irk you to no end if you ever need their help.

I bought an extended warranty on my old Subaru. Saved my ass as I had an engine AND transmission replaced under said extended warranty. Both issues happened after 60k.

In general, this is true.
On the other hand, Subaru Gold plus warranty (which is really close to b2b warranty) might be worth it.
Few things however:
-shop around. 1700 is what an extended warranty with the same specs will cost on an STI. N/A should be cheaper.
-you can buy it an any point before basic warranty expires (36mo/36k)
-you can buy it from any dealer.

Check pricing at credit unions as well, I got one on my Town & Country for $600 that was better than the $1400 one the dealer was pushing. Never used it but for $600, good insurance. I won't buy one on a Japanese car though, they just don't need them! Unless it's $600

Third-party (that is non-manufacturer) extended warranty is usually junk no matter what the price is.

If I purchase it later(before 36mo/36k expires), will it be generally more expensive? I worry about getting this (Gold Plus) is because the cost of labor is generally more expensive in the Bay area.

Thanks for the input.

Unlikely. If BRZs are breaking down left and right between today and 3 years from now - they, of course, might increase the price. Other than that - the price is the same regardless of mileage if the car is eligible.

Toyota/Scion have extended Factory warranties.. THOSE are the ones to get. You can wait to get it though as you have until the last month or 1000 miles before the limit to purchase one. Also it can be purchased from any dealership os shop around.. Don't go for the third party warranties..From every article I have read.. they suck..

Those finance guys... Sheeze. He tried to sell me a warranty on my dead grandma!

Warranty on aftermarket wheel even and some $3500 theft policy.. I just about told him if he offers me another warranty of any kind I'm leaving. Considering the factory warranty covers everything for 36k miles and the power train is 60k miles I figure that's more than enough.

I hoping that by the time I have 60k miles on it I'll be ready to put the cage and fuel cell in it so definitely no on the extended.

Save the $1000 and use that on a good set of summer tires.

I got the factory Toyota extended warranted. $1600 for 9 yrs/100K. Considering it includes roadside for that time (I think AAA is like $90/yr) and he lowered my interest rate by .5% I felt it was worth it. That and this is a first year new car, who knows what problems it could possibly have.

I got the Toyota factory extended warranty for $1000. While I am typically adverse to most warranties (like the $20 ones on $10 headphones), I got it for a few reasons. I even told myself not to beforehand because I got one for my Si and never had to use it.

However, I thought about the first reason: this is a first year model. Major model changes tend to have issues and completely new cars would only have a higher chance I think. I plan on keeping this car for a long, long time. Of course, I don't know the future and said the same for my Si, I have a pretty good hunch about this. I don't baby the car everyday (anymore), so it is going to be pushed a bit more than say your grocery getting Camry.

The other side of the coin is, I do plan to mod it eventually. I know this could get in the way of warranty claims and I may end up refunding it and putting that $$ towards the principle. I guess it depends how quickly I get around to doing it.

I have Toyota Platinum Care $0 deductible on my '08 xB. It's good insurance to have. I've only had a couple minor issues, but it's all covered and they gave me no hassle since it was a Toyota branded warranty. It's funny the dealer would call when the car was in for service and say, "It looks like you need ____." My response was, "Well, it's under Toyota Platinum Care, so fix it under warranty." It's a good feeling on a vehicle I drove 35k+ a year!

If you don't plan on keeping the car forever, also consider the warranty adds resale value. Definitely shop dealers for best price on warranty. Buddy of mine got an extended on his wife Solara at some out of state dealer for hundreds less than any of the local guys.

I wouldn't bother with those 3rd party warranties in most cases as they are usually a hassle, but that's not to say there aren't exceptions to the rule.

I got mines for 1000, 7yr/100,000 mile warranty. is it junk? I dnt think so. this is the first production of the brz so I'm expecting some imperfections to come somewhere down the line. Iam modding the car with some bolt-ons and a tune. My dealership is pretty lenient with mods. so I think it's worth it for me.

I'm currently in the market for an extended service agreement. I've researched 3rd party warranties and I've heard some bad and good things about them--but, mostly bad. So I am going to get with a manufacturer backed warranty. I'll still try to use the quotes from the 3rd party warranties to see if I can get the prices down.

I do like them on luxury cars since the parts and labor for those cars are crazy.

On my last 2003 Infiniti M45 the warranty from my credit union paid out about 9 thousand dollars for little crap that I would have just dealt with had I not had the warranty.

The headunit and brain went bad that was 2 grand, the cd changer went bad and cost $2,300. There was 1,100 for squeaky seat rails, 800 for a light relay, 500 for trunk shocks and some other crap I can't remember.

On a toyota repairs are fairly inexpensive as are the parts. And most things that could go wrong on this car could be replaced by aftermarket for much less.

Since I plan to mod the hell out of this car I will skip the extended. My dealer does give a lifetime powertrain warranty for free, sure I will void that.
