i bet that second and a half is tires alone...

just to put it out there, the mustang v6 isnt really any faster with cheap tires...

that 0-60 test was done with the crappy tires that come on the BASE mustang without the performance package

For sure. Pirelli PZero vs Michelin Primacy? Not even the same class of tires... I do wonder if a V6 Mustang with IRS would be faster though.

Until there's an engine revision or significant tuning occurs, the BRZ will never accelerate like an American torque monster. For some people, acceleration IS smiles. I certainly appreciate the way my ex-gf's father's '97 Cobra pushes you into the seats with just a stab at the throttle, but I've always wanted a "driver's car." This will be my foray into the lightweight, low-power sports car world of yore; hopefully you wont see my BRZ for sale next year. I definitely see some type of V8 in my future though.

with those crappy tires it shows you how bad the suspension is,

So with gripper/better tires it'll do better with G Forces? Hmmm...

I guess you see what you want from that video. I really prefer smaller cars and the Mustangs I've driven seem large and squishy. The reviewers definitely seemed to like the BRZ better despite the Mustang having the better track time.

I wonder if the Mustang could have kept up on a tighter track. We already know it'll go faster in a straight line.

I wouldn't be surprised if it can, since the Mustang has much stickier tires.

I have no idea just how "performance" "ultra high performance" "max performance" and "touring" (all summer) compare in terms of grip but seeing how they gave so many different designations, I'm guessing the difference between "touring" and "max performance" is quite big. It makes me wonder why they couldn't have picked say, a "performance" designated tire (which do come in LRR by the way), because the truth is numbers do sell cars and when you have zero traits coming out on top when looking at a spec sheet, it makes a very hard sell...if you have lateral grip being higher than the competitors, at least that's something to brag about, and it helps make a case for the lightweight + low design philosophy.

In the same way the 86 sacrifices in some areas to give exceptional handling, the Mustang sacrifices to give a "big engine". It comes down to what you are looking for in your sport coupe. In the under 30k range you can't have it all.

I will add, if you buy a Mustang, get the 5.0 GT. Although you make the same compromises (inherent weight and size of the S197 chassis), you get the full benefit as well.

This is a perfect example of preferences in this review. The Stang sounded like the better daily driver(280lbft of tq/softer suspension setting) and the BRZ sounded like the better track car(better suspension/smaller nimbler feel) despite being slower. It has always been this way with small sports coupe vs medium-big sized sports coupes. If I lived in that kind of area where Angus was driving it would be the BRZ and no other car to choose from.

Agreed. Both cars have sacrifices. It depends on which compromise you can live with.

Interesting lap time between the FRS and BRZ on the same track, same driver but different days.

BRZ: 1:30.32
FRS: 1:31.15

Damn dude, read what the guy wrote.

I really appreciated this review since I was considering a Mustang GT instead of the BRZ. This video really reassured me that I made the right choice with the BRZ. I drove 2 different 2008 model Mustang GTs (One Bullitt and a standard GT), and thought they were good, but they felt really huge and too comfortable for a small guy like me (5'8", 130 lbs). I was curious about whether the newer Mustangs were any different, sounds like they aren't. I want the BRZ to feel similar to a Mini Cooper S or Lotus Elise, light, nimble and snug. Based on this review and others, sounds like the BRZ is what I was hoping it to was.
How will going with a V8 instead of a V6 make the Mustang feel any smaller, lighter, or more agile? The problem is the chassis, not the engine.
