Love the Bus.

My old AE86:

It wasn't a really defining car for me. But it was one of the more fun cars I've owned.

The cars I currently own:
2007 Subaru STI

2003 Subaru WRX

2007 Subaru Legcay spec.B (will be traded for a BRZ)

1991 Ford E-350 Ambulance (Tow vehicle for the WRX)

Past cars from latest to earliest:
1986 Toyota Corolla Deluxe (above)
1993 Lincoln Mark VIII
1981 Buick Regal
1998 Pontiac Trans Am
1987 Nissan Pulsar SE
1987 Nissan Pulsar

Wow, what are the chances that the 2nd post author would have a support vehicle similar to my "Bondo Condo". I was originally shopping for an ambulance, but I wanted more room so I went with a shuttle bus instead. I've been kind of wanting an ambulance still, though, hehe. You can check out the Bondo Condo build here:
http://www.skoolie.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=5888

So that makes two previous AE86 owners. There must be more, right!?!

I had an AW, but not an AE. That was a fun car.

Just need an FX16 owner to pop in and we'll have the 4a drivetrain trifecta.

I was thinking about getting a tow vehicle so I could do some more agressive modding to the WRX. Then one day I was driving to a dealership to pick up parts for work and I saw the ambulance sitting on a used car lot. I immediately thought "that would be an EPIC tow vehicle!" and pulled in. It has either 200K or 300K miles (probably 300K) and they wanted $5K. I offered $3K and they said no. So I walked.

Zip ahead a month and a half and I'm driving past the same lot and it's still there. I walk in and say "So, how do you feel about $3K now?" and they sold it to me.

It has a lot of issues, and rust, so I'm not sure just how much money I want to put into it. But it hauls the car, carries all my tools, and gives me a place to shack out on 2-day events. So it's a keeper for the near future at least.

I had an 86 back in the late 80's before they became so popular. Back then, it was just another cheap import turd lol. At the time, I hated it and I would much rather had a 5.0 Mustang or an IROC.

I had an 85 hatchback. I sold it on the move to CA 3 1/2 years ago.

Still have the WRX wagon. It's my DD.

After moving to CA I sold the car to a buddy in Austin TX who had a Levin coupe. He then had both of the Levin's in Austin. But about a month later this happened:

I also recently offloaded my 89 240 hatch. I'm waiting impatiently for the FRS to come out.

Aonarch, I am cracking up that you replied in this topic to tell us that you HAVEN'T owned an AE86. But since you are obviously a Toyota-head you earned it.

I should also post that my AE86 has a bit of a history with the drift community. It was Tony Angelos car at one point. I heard they jumped train tracks with it amongst other stories. When it died there was a thread on Ziptied called "death of a legend."

I have an AE86 at the moment. Its actually Taka Aono's old car that he won two national championships with in SCCA. I want to get a FR-S, but I really shouldn't.

My first 2 car where AE86 ( I'm 23 now, got them I was 16 )

First one was a total POS, 1986 Corolla GT-S coupe.

Second one was dammn clean but slow, 1986 Corolla SR5 coupe.

My goal was to swap the GT-S shit in the SR5, but the GT-S engine blow, 3 week after was the SR5 one blow... I was carless so i've sold the 2 cars.

I've drive the GT-S one winter and damn this car tell me how to drive.

going to check with my parents to see if they have any it was back when i was 16(12 years ago). a guy was giving it away on the toyotanation forums and i was the first to respond. It was probably one of the cooler things to happen to me. It needed a motor but the body and frame was in surprisingly great condition.

OK I don't even have an order for the FR-S yet, but I will get one!

I got my Corolla from a guy in St Johns, actually across the street where the new FRS is being delivered off the boats!

Here it was a few days after I bought it in 2003 for $420.

2005:

How it looked when I sold it in 2006:

Makes me miss it. I had a lot of fun in that car. Mostly cause I knew I couldn't break it, no matter how many times I hit a curb, or flung it around curves on Crown Point.

Any AE86er hating on the FR-S is just jealous. All they can judge it on is style, anyway, since hardly anyone has driven the new cars. It's not like the style of the AE86 is what makes them popular anyway, it's the driving experience -- which is exactly why I am buying my FR-S!

Funny, we had one in my family back in the late 80's when I was driving an IROC. The 86 was a twin-cam and was my sister's car. While the IROC was much faster feeling, the 86 was so much more agile and I liked the fact that it was stick. Even though I was raised in a small-block loving GM family, I recognized that 86 was a cool car. I wouldn't have admitted this it at the time, there were days I wished we had traded.

My old 1987 GT-S Twin Cam. Factory LSD, no sun roof, crank windows. '87 the GT-S seats were optional and the SR-5 seats were standard. This was the lightest version of the AE86 they ever sold in the US. No dash cracks and full black interior. It was basically the perfect USDM AE86 with a few minor mods, some were cleaner, but as a drivers car it was fantastic.
