Hi, new member/ Have some new info

Well i was just picking up some parts for my supra at the dealership and i started talking with the manager about the ft-86.

I don't know if he's bullshitting but he said that he knows the car will have a 9000rpm redline.

If that true this car will be really good.

He also is excited on this new boxer engine, he said it will be a 2.0 boxer engine but redesigned.

Welcome! Nice MKIV!!

If that is indeed true, a 9K redline would even more fun to drive!

Well, it would be nice for Toyota to once again become king of sport cars(93-98 supra era)

If Toyota can make the ft-86 close as possible how the concept looks and with a 9000 rpm redline boxer engine, it will definitely become legendary, just like the supra twin turbo.

Imagine it with a turbo,

Welcome! I'm jealous of your MKIV.

Anyways, it's possible to make the boxer engine rev up to 9k. Even old gc8 series (JDM ver) can rev pass 8k, so I don't see why FR boxer engine can't rev up to 9k with current technology (just UDSM ver STI's didn't rev pass 7k).

Hope its true, I remember a Japanese video back then about the GC8 22B is safe to rev up to 8,500rpm stock if so maybe this "redesign" boxer engine will mKe 9,000rpm.

Your MK is very nice! Clean and simple. I've been checking the trader time to time for a clean 93-98 but all I've seen are riced out ones or ones that serious attention. They definitely hold their value. The hardtop are even harder to find.

I was hoping for a turbo equipped FT but an N/A would be just as fun.

It will be a fun-to-drive car if it has 6mt and 200hp. There are not many reasons for FT-86 to be 200+ hp, but there are many reason for it not to be <200hp.
9K rpm? seriously? If it's true, FT-86 is a baby LFA.

and This.

I don't doubt it is possible, But I really don't see the FT-86 revving anywhere more than a ~8200rpm redline.

2800 lbs wet, 200hp, 9K redline, 6MT, RWD... I could only imagine how exciting it would be to drive.

Yea, subaru's can be built for.....OVER 9000!!!!!!!rpm. check out the video. These also guys have an evo that boosts 2.4 BAR (34 psi) and the Defi gauge goes nuts because the sensor cant read it.

9200rpm WRX by Lim Tan Motor.(THIS IS REAL, NO BUL

another 9000rpm suby
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bGqEJ1BCNA

However a 9000 rpm redline, would mean you would have to rev the piss out of the car to get it going like the RX8 or S2000

Everyone wants it to be like that, however, there is no word from Toyota yet. If a turbo one can be somewhere around 300-ish, i will take one after I graduated.

How drivable would 9k rpm be?

I mean I know direct injection helps with torque..but unless they use the same gear ratios, now just being elongated by redline. So would that mean like 72mph 2nd gear? I am speaking in terms of 5spd...so i guess 62mph 2nd gear?

Gearing is EVERYTHING ahhhlol

In my car 1st gear only goes up to 28mph...so pitiful! the C6 z06 goes to 62mph in 1st! ahh

I would like 35-40mph 1st gear, 65 2nd, 90 3rd, 110 4th (should do great for stock 1/4 mile runs...right after max torque I would think)

That's just me. 5th and 6th would be nice to short from eachother...like 135-155 something like that.

That would make 6th a true overdrive (10mph less than standard) and only needed for tracks with long straights...assuming you can get to 155 on any track with 200hp and 160~ torque.

Maybe Fuji? HA

Unless you guys want something like 1st 50, 2nd 75, 3rd, 95, 4th 110, 5th 135, 6th 155.

That would be ideal for tracks with longer turns, but would suck in auto-X. If only gears would be as malleable as in Gran Turismo lol, then you could change for every track.

Just a rant. Moving on!

If that's true... most of S2k owner would be driving in the freeway on 2nd gear... and I'm pretty sure all the S2k owners here will tell you they do use 6th gear in freeway, even though they're not driving 155.

Well, if you are looking for a mk4 supra tt, that is in good condition, expect to pay any where from 25-40g's.

All of my friends tell me that i can get 40g's for mine, since it is basically 1 owner(My Dad bought it and then gave it to me), and it doesn't even have 80,000 km's yet. Always stored in winter since day 1 and changed the oil every 3500 km after warranty.

I was thinking of selling mine though but i don't think i'll get 40g's for it,
I'll sell you mine if interested

Mazda Miata NC 2nd gear goes up to 70mph...

Im just saying in terms of ratio, practicality. I didnt mean shift points for daily driving!

My 3rd gear tops outs at like 80 or so...doesnt mean I dont cruise the highway in 5th.

I've seen a some gems in the 40's and even some retard ones like an oem one for 66K w/less than 30k.

Toronto is too far to even think about bringing it to CA but say hi to my buddy Tim up in Waterloo for me.

a good friend of mine used to have a SUPER nice 1993.5 supra tt 6 speed hardtop. i believe he sold it for roughly $50,000 with 600whp, stock body, Fikse wheels, and less than 40,000 miles. it is by far my favorite supra i've ever seen.

-Mike

EDIT: back on topic, i don't think we need anything that revs to 9,000 rpms. i think 7800-8400 for a redline is fine on a 2.0L. it's fun, but we'll see what they give us...

Never know, Toyota might do it like Honda did with S2k. First gen rev up to 9k and second gen rev up to 8.4k (correct me on this one. Can't remember the redline on AP2).
