I always worry when people try to justify volumizing a niche car...
I don't buy it, because the same could be said about navigation, leather seats, heated seats, dual zone climate control, Xenon HID head lights, and all the other crap that comes with the BRZ. Yet the BRZ is a very popular model and without it the interest in the car over here would be less.

I appreciate the people who want a comfortable somewhat luxury daily driver and a sun roof is important to some people. It's not like they would have to drastically re-engineer the car to fit a sun roof, both Toyota and Subaru have all the parts just lying around the factory.

Anyway, whether they do or not - I think offering it as an option wouldn't be as bad and sacrilegious as some of you are making it out to be. It's a personal preference that doesn't really affect the weight or vehicle dynamics significantly, so no need to make others feel stupid for wanting it.

The moonroof on my old Jetta ended up being a $500 fix.

My Si has a moonroof and to be honest I enjoy having it, it is kind of nice to let some sun in through the window up top, and I almost always leave the glass tilted. It creates a pretty decent vacuum and pulls air through the cabin and is FAR quieter than cracking your normal windows. I rarely use A/C so it is nice.

That said I don't want one on my BRZ. So much work went into lowering the cg and a moonroof is just a slap in the face to that philosophy.

The roof, I don't think, is even big enough to fit a sunroof. You might at well make the entire top removable. Like the 300ZX

There are 2 things that add weight and reduce structure that I wouldn't mind if they offered as an options... a hatch and a moon roof!

You can always go on a diet to compensate for the added sunroof weight.

The weight is coming out of the center of the car on a diet, not the roof where it can spoil the balance the most. Nice try though. 240Z didn't have sunroof. 260Z didn't have sunroof. 280Z didn't have sunroof. The 80's/90's happened and carmakers were all on cocaine, so the 300ZX's had T-tops because so did Camaros and Firebirds. Then when those cars disappeared the 350Z didn't have a sunroof, and neither does the 370Z. So deal with it!

Its not only the weight but the location of the weight. This car is touted as having super low cog so putting weight at the highest point of the car is kind of self defeating

Also losing weight only works if you are fact other wise its call malnutrition

Why get a sunroof when they age they start to leak plus you have to worry about one more electric part on the car that might go wrong, you ad weight to the highest part of the car which upsets the center of gravity, you loose a ton of headroom , plus i would hate to have a big piece of glass over my roof in the event of a roll over. The biggest reason why toyota & subaru decided not to put one on the car would be it would raise production costs and the price of the car would have to be higher even though you would pay is at as an option the base model would probably see an increase of price as well because they would have to produce two different body styles.

I have a sunroof, have had no issues with it, and enjoy it. While it may not be a necessity, it makes those moments when you're with friends, napping in the car, or going or just cruising around just ever so slightly better. It all depends on how much it would compromise the car, that's all.

The changes of the weight on the BRZ from the sun roof would take away what the car was made to do.

Plus, I don't want no aftermarket company sawing the roof off my car.

I fully expect to see huge sound systems in the trunk, huge wheels on skinny, low aspect ratio tires, aftermarket sunroofs, and obnoxiously loud exhausts. Oh yeah import culture.

The sun roof would be bigger than the roof itself.

Yes, this is a huge reason why I'm considering this car. After all the work I did to my MR2, I can't fit in it with a helmet on. I found out I'll have to have custom floor mounts made to accommodate a racing seat and still have my tall goony ass fit in it. I bought an AE86 with a sunroof, not realizing just how much worse it is than even my MR2 for headroom (which is a hardtop btw). Had to sell that, albeit for many reasons other than just headroom. Oh, and I can't afford to lose 20lbs, either. I'd go invisible if I turned sideways!

All this talk about stability and being rigid will go out the door once the convertible comes out.

We all get that this car is all about handling aka door stabilizers.
