Do you plan to keep your FR-S/BRZ Bone Stock?

I was just curious if Anybody at all on this forum planned to keep their FR-S or BRZ BONE STOCK. I've had many a times throughout my car shopping past when I was interested in EVOs, STis, and WRXs and the most irritating thing was never being able to find a truly bone stock one, that had never been modded or molested.

I know A lot of people tastefully mod their cars, however if ever i'm shopping for a used performance car, I want one that has Never been modded.

That's why i want a brand new one and not a used one.
You dont know who's been bagging the crap out of a car when its used (especially if its a performance oriented car, which the chances of it being beat up is higher than if it wasnt)

Probably just stick to small upgrades as new aftermarket parts come out.

I plan to avoid major modifications. My advice has always been "don't mod what you can't afford to replace". Get an cat-back install wrong, and you are out $80 at a muffler shop. Get a cam swap wrong and you are out $5000 of engine.

I know what you mean, for the longest I been looking for a bone stock 05 STI aspen white (bug eye style) before I decide on the FRS/BRZ all I could find was rape Sti either they been heavily mod with cheap aftermarket Parts, car accident, weak frame the list goes on... I will do nothing too major with the BRZ.... Light mods cold air, exhaust, suspension, big brakes, more wheel sets, most of this from the Trd side.... But no supercharger or turbo for me....

I agree, I warn anyone waiting for an used FR-S/BRZ, or any other used sports car, you are up for a surprise, no matter how good the car is, if it's beat like crap, it will turn out a lemon. I rather buy a cheaper new car than a cheap used car that will cost me more in the end due to bad owners.

As far as topic, I will most likely keep it stock until either warranty expires, or have too much money to burn.

I mod everything I touch... except for the '96 Sentra I owned. There was no point in polishing that turd. But otherwise, I'm never happy with a stock car. I'd rather finance this car and modify it than keep leasing my S4 which is twice the car the Subie is, because I can't mod it! (I've driven a STaSIS-tuned S4 with suspension/wheels/tires/chip/exhaust and it blew my mind, hence why I can't leave well enough alone).

I'm planning on saving up money for quality (read: NOT eBay/made in China) parts as they come out. I hope to supercharge the car once the warranty expires or is close to expiring. I want to upgrade the brakes with either WRX 4pot/2pot or STi Brembos, a good set of coil-overs and thicker sway bars, forged wheels with summer performance tires, headers and exhaust, and the aforementioned supercharger. I also want to do some interior tweaks to make it look more upscale, such as replacing the painted silver trim bits with carbon fiber/real metal. Last, I'll keep the body styling conservative with an STi front splitter and rear diffuser, and possibly the TRD rear spoiler (not the wing).

Good man. I am absolutely DONE with buying modified cars. Granted I usually buy ~20yr-old modded cars with 3+ owners, but still. Unless you know the work was done professionally and/or have the stock parts to revert it back, buying a modded car can be a huge PITA. However since I'm buying this car for me and not for resale, it's getting modded.

I'll keep it as stock as stock Auto-x classes allow. So I guess not Bone-stock. I won't be buying for a couple years though, so I may be looking for a used one and hoping to find the needle in the haystack.

I'm probably going to do rims/tires very quickly, followed by springs and maybe other suspension mods. Powertrain modding will likely be limited to a K&N drop-in and a catback exhaust until the engine warranty is up.

Replacing amber side markers with clear - guess I'm a hardcore modder according to the poll.

For aesthetic modifications:
There's a few I see myself doing right away...

For performance modifications:
I will drive the car stock for a while. I want to learn the car before making any modifications, that way when I do, I can be sure they improve a specific aspect of performance.

The stateside STIs were never bugeye style. The bugeyes were on stateside Impreza models from 2002-2003, while the headlights were updated on the 2004-2005 models, and again for the 2007-2008 models, and the STIs weren't released here until the 2004 models were sold in 2003. Just some FYI

Anyway, if I get one (as I'm still happy with my Evo and may not have much benefit in giving myself another car to pay for), I'd likely keep it stock. I'm well past the modding phase in my life (which I thankfully got out of my system 10+ years ago and learned my lessons), plus since I'm not a track junkie, it's not as if I'd truly utilize the added benefits of modding a BRZ, which is already sounding like one of the most rewarding driving experiences for the money that you can buy today. A valid warranty (with minimal grounds for claim denial) and no worries of getting pulled over and issued fix-it tickets by Johnny Law is a very good feeling, one that I thoroughly enjoyed with my Evo for the past five years.

Only "mod" I will do is just wheels and tires for autox.

From my point of view, most people probably are not going to be able to drive this car at its limits bone stock. I don't see why you would want to mod the car before you even have a mastery for it. If you mod suspension or power and wind up getting faster on a track or autox, is it because of the mod or did you get better as a driver? I would apply this same philosophy to any car. I am buying this car because it is a drivers car and I want to become a better driver.

Just my 0.02 cents when it comes to modifications.

Here is what i plan to do with my ride it will prob stay stock for the first 6 months till i figure out what it needs but this is my prediction of mods that i might need:

Engine: Cold Air Intake, Exhaust, ECU tuning, Maybe Cams, valve springs, and retainers. should bump me up to 200-210 whp which is perfect for circuit racing.

Suspension: Coilovers & Strut Bar

Brakes: Upgraded rotors, lines , & Race Pads, maybe later down the road a front BBK on a car so light i dont think that will be needed though.

Exterior: Maybe an APR wing if traction becomes a prob which i dont think it will, Front APR splitter when released, Tow Hooks Front & Rear.

Interior: Stripped out interior either a sparco or recaro racing bucket, Welded Cage, schroth racing 6 point harness, fire suppression system, and FAST helmet cooling system.

Wheels: Enkei RPF1 17" for the track & stock wheels with grippy tires

Most people, perhaps. I have a friend who gives me crap for modifying my MR2, stating that I don't take enough time to get used to the car in one configuration before changing something. What do race car drivers do? They don't... change cars, tuning setups, components all the time do they? Oh, right, they do. Constantly. Part of being a skilled driver is being able to quickly adapt to changes in vehicle setup as well as terrain and climate change, rules and regulations, etc. You do need some time to settle in, yes, but I'd rather constantly improve the car (and the driver) along the way than have it stay the same forever; that sounds boring!

Springs to reduce wheel gap, intake, maybe headers, and a tune.

Probably springs first then eventually the engine stuff.
