Beatrush / Laile frame brace

hi club ft86,

so i got my beatrush front & rear frame braces. the braces that replace the stock crash beams. Ill update this thread w the install & impressions etc. for now, weight. (all has been done on .2lbs increment human scale)




Front laile frame beam - 9.6 lbs (scale +/- .1lbs)
*weighed with myself holding it, results were 9.4 lbs



Rear laile frame beam - 6 lbs (scale +/- .1lbs)
** ONLY weighed holding it (subtracted) gross body weight, beam alone didnt register on scale



***ordered from ft86speedfactory, wait time was about 2 weeks, front was out of stock at the time.

VERY interested in what you think of the front brace.

I'm planning on getting this piece because when I install my turbo kit, I will be cutting the "mouthpiece" portion off on my BRZ.

Debating on keeping the original crash beam and painting it flat back, or getting this brace. I think the Beatrush brace will allow more airflow with the mouthpiece cut away.

How much does this effect crash impact safety?

i was worried about this actually. Altho the part of the beam that absorbs most of the crash on the oe peice is parellel with the frame. The parellel posts in these are actually very solid, dimple dyed like some oe bumper beams, and despite their look, they are actually 2 crimped plates welded together with a center post inside. I'm sure a light hit right on the centr, like a pole or tree will damage the radiator support more than with the oe perpendicular beam but at a high speed collision the motor & frame rails are what will keep the car from breaching the cockpit. Alot of people run no front brace and get into impacts drifting. So atleast having a crumple zone w the parallel posts may help. I'm not a crash expert but at the end of the day, a hit over 40 mph will bend the frame despite a crash beam or not, so its totalled regardless, and lastly. My last 3 cars didn't have airbags so a bumper beam is not my concern when it comes to saftey. That sounds bad but I hope u get where I'm coming from.

Low speed collisions will probably cost more to repair, but bumper beams don't change how effective crumple zones are on a chassis in high speed accidents. Cars in Japan and other countries have had little to no bumper beams for quite a long time, the primary purpose for bumper beams in the US is to reduce insurance costs in those pesky 5mph tests.

The sheer force those bolts could take would really determine how effective it would be if you hit something in the center. The center beam doesn't look too solid either.

The side prices looks really well beefed up though.

These are obviously for a performance oriented car, so you're sacrificing some safety for weight loss. If you're questioning how safe these are, they're probably not for you.

I was thinking about taking the bolts to fastenal
and getting grade 8 bolts.

I have heard that (robispec may be? ) the crash bars had very little effect on the car's rigidness, especially with stock hp

Looking back at a thread Robispec made, he saved 32 pounds by deleting both crash bars. With this, we can gather that both of these beams will net a total weight reduction of 16.4 pounds...most being off the front of the car since the front beam is heavier.
