FR-S based Sedan?

http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...auto-show.html

Toyota has announced today that it will be bringing an all new U.S. designed sedan to show off at the 2012 New York Auto Show.
The details are sparse on what the newcar will be, with Toyota saying, “the sedan’s exciting new design features an elegant yet athletic look.” The new car could possibly be an all-new Avalon, although we can’t be sure.
Designed in the U.S., (presumably at the brand’s Calty design center in California), it features some massive wheels, aggressive exhaust tips and even a rear-end that’s inspired by the new Scion FR-S sports car.
Toyota designers who worked on the car will be hosting a live video chat at 2pm on the day of the reveal and will be answering the public’s questions regarding the new mystery car.
The Global Premiere will take place on April, 5 at at 10:30 a.m.

Could be all-new Avalon, but I wish for RWD Corolla.

This is the only part that is slightly FRS related.

It's not likely a sedan version of the twins. But if it is, I'll be at the webchat asking if it's got a "tarboe." Just because I don't have any good questions to ask.

No reason to think a 4dr version will be designed in the U.S. Definitely not a 4dr FR-S.

How long has it been since we've had a RWD sedan with a 4 cylinder in the US?

Yeah I think the BMW E36 318 was the last one, not sure.

Also not sure why you're quoting me. I was just trying to point out that if a 4dr FR-S is made it wouldn't be designed by a U.S. designer as the article points out. Not sure what that has to do with your reply.

Where would this Avalon fit in toyota's lineup?
The current one just fills the same hole as the Lexus ES, just without the Lexus badge.

Except, ES is the 2nd best selling Lexus model.

Well yeah, but that makes the Avalon in its current iteration absolutely redundant.

I never get why those two existed since they're both luxo-barges based off the same car lol, might as well just either redefine the role of th Avalon or cut it loose completely.

Its been a while since I've paid attention to lexus but isn't the avalon a much bigger car than the ES? I always thought the avalon was more on par with the GS or even the LS

I have a feeling it will be a concept with some inspiration of the FR-S to get attention. Once the production version comes out it will look nothing like the FR-S.

Avalon is larger than ES, and it starts 4K cheaper. It's the poorman Lexus for Toyota money.
FYI, ES is based off Camry chassis while Avalon is based off stretched Camry's chassis. However, saying ES is the same as Camry or Avalon is completely arrogant. I have driven both ES and Camry from generation to generation and before facelift Avalon. ES is the class where Camry or Avalon can't come close (for the same generation).

I thought you were talking about the US market not US designers, my bad.

Also you are right, I forgot about those.
