Vinyl Wrap?

Is anyone considering wrapping their car?
I'm thinking of wrapping the brz matte white ; Possibly with some carbon fibre parts such as handles/mirrors.
Other than for looks it'll protect the stock paint from any douchebags wanting to key your car/ normal wear and tear

Not a bad looking wrap. Tell him to post that stuff in HD so we can get a better look.

I'm considering wrapping the roof in a flat black. Not interested in wrapping the whole car bc then the door and trunk jambs look weird.

A good quality wrap costs more than a decent paint job no?

I'll admit I know very little about wrapping, but wouldn't that cause the car to look funny later on down the road, since the non wrapped areas would have faded, or do you plan to leave the wrap on for the life of the car?

I have a giant 5' x 30' Carbon Fibre 3M wrap sitting in my house... I probably won't use it for anything on the BRZ though...

Depends on the quality of the wrap/paint job

A good wrap costs 3k, maybe less on a car this small. for me, I've never been impressed with the finish of full wrapped cars, they always have a few small imperfections. I could maybe see doing a few pieces here or there for style, I'm considering wrapping the interior silver dash pieces at some point, if I get bored/they have easy to work on contours.

As long as you dimple the wrap you'll make up for the weight with improved aerodynamic efficiency.

Wouldn't mind wrapping just the hood in matte black. I just might do that down the road if it would be cheaper than painting, and if I don't like it I can take it off, or trade it.

wrapping the whole car is not the best idea for several reasons:
1) it is very expensive [for what it is, 90% of cost is labor], unless if you have some am do a micky mouse job...
2) even if you get a pro to do it, it will never come out perfect...
3) people can still key your car, it will just tear through the vinyl, lol...

just get a legit pain job and call it a day...

wrapping certain parts of the car is cool though, like the interior trim pieces, hood, mirrors, roof, trunk, etc...

i plan to wrap the roof with di-noc myself when the time comes...

wrapping the whole car flat black LOOKS cool, but it's a b!tch to maintain...

of course the job doesn't come with any warranty, so if you get a tear or anything, you are screwed... you can't just fix the spot since it's one big piece of vinyl; you have to redo that whole panel...

i want a flat black brz/fr-s with a license plate: SHINOBI :]
if i do end up going that route, i am def painting it...

I ride ZIPP wheels on my race bike. Fully dimpled wheels But I drink the KoolAid.

Edit: Anyone who likes physics/engineering will find the above article interesting on dimples.

Thats true, but the thing with paint jobs is that it may affect your resale value compared to being able to just remove the vinyl wrap. And who cares if you have one or two imperfections, some people leave bird shit on their car so.......
Only if paint jobs were reversible......

whole car wrap should be left for show cars and promo vehicles, imo... just not a good idea for a daily driven car, too much wear n tear... unless if you got enough money to change the color/redo the job every so annually... the only good aspect of vinyl wrapping the whole car is it's simple reversibility... and for starters, you shouldn't be painting your car if you are going to get sick of it in a few months or plan to sell it in the future...

to each his own... i'm not completely against it, since i was recently thinking about doing it as well until i saw how expensive it was and not very practical in the long run; i plan to keep my brz/frs for a long time...

so true, I'm just thinking about wrapping in case I would hate the result! like you said, the good thing about it is reversibility, but i also think it serves well to just protect your brand new paint too....

I like the way vinyl wrap LOOKS but for a car that I plan on DD'ing it would just end up looking horrible after a week =/, too hard to keep clean.
