Scion pure pricing.

I remember when the Celica first came out in 2000, there were couple grand "market adjustment" on those cars. I'm sure the first couple years these cars will be popular if the pricing is right. So the dealers are bound by Toyota to sell them at sticker correct? I can see dealers salivating to get as much profit possible with a new hot car.

It totally depends on if the car is selling well or not.

If the dealer has one that's been sitting on the lot for months, they will work around the sticker price I assure you.

But if they're selling as fast as they can ship them in, they have no reason to come down on their price.

that can, and they do... i remember going in to my dads new mazda 3 purchase, we did that whole cash for clunkers crap. they didn't let us use the brand loyalty thing (you know, that thing where if you have a mazda you get a certain amount off) because the sales man clamied, "you know i gotta make some money too"

Scion Pure Pricing is NOT negotiable under any circumstance.

If its higher than the MSRP, call toyota.
If its lower than the MSRP, pray toyota doesn't catch on.

The only way I know of that you can get a lower price is the places that do the MSRP and then an "internet" price.

The internet price is slightly discounted and is due to the fact that they took away a couple of free services. It's great if you don't live in the area and service your car elsewhere. Otherwise, theres no other away around the MSRP and its typically worth it to get the MSRP versus internet.

long as "market adjustment" isn't allowed, I'm good. BMW dealers were selling the 1 series M for 10-30k above. crazy.

Actually this is not how it works...

Scion Pure Pricing just means that the dealer has to sell the car at what they advertise, and that they are all priced the same at that dealer... Toyota doesnt care what that number is...

I could sell a FR-S at $55,000, if I advertise it as such and all of them at my dealership were priced at that price...
Vise Versa, I could sell it at $15,000 as long as I advertise all of them at $15,000...

"Internet" price = in store price = selling price

Dealers that mark up or mark down a Scion is just plain stupid though... Marking them up would mean that the consumer would just skip them and go to the next dealership that sold them at MSRP. Selling them for below MSRP would just be a loss to the dealership... dumb either way...

You sure can. But keep in mind that no options also means no floor mats... most Scion dealers "include" floormats... but they are really just selling you the car + floor mats at about $189 more than just the car...

That's what I plan to do as well. Test drive it to make sure it's what I really want, then go online and build it exactly how I want it since you don't get any real "deals" for buying a car off the lot anyways.

I'll go in, test drive a few, then buy online.

I wonder if the special/RC or other variants are only available in the dealer lot though?

Buying online charges you a 750 dollar destination fee, so its a bit more expensive than picking one up from the dealer
Also, interest can still be haggled.

I can deal with that if I can do what I want, and if I can get a special edition that way.

I agree. $750 is a small price to pay to get exactly what I want in my car. Unless of course there is one on the lot that has what I want.

Exactly, the selling price MUST match the posted price and be the same price for everyone. The same goes for finance rates, extended warranties, GAP insurance, and accessories.

My dealership marked down our last 2011 tC when we didn't sell it before we got 3-4 2012 tC's in. We posted the price in our showroom on the menus and on our website.

I can't speak for all dealerships, but mine will only add around $1,000 or less of accessories to a car that we have in stock and we only do it to one that we have in our showroom. The accessories are usually rear spoiler, body graphic, and floor mats. The one in our showroom now is a RS 7.0 with fog lights, body graphic & floor mats

I have one on my lot right now that is that exact price. My inventory guy tries to get all Scions in that are stripped. If anything, floor mats will be on the car and they cost $184 so your AT will be $20,489 & manual is $19,489.

When too many accessories are added, it makes the car more difficult to sell because it lessens the number of people that would be interested in the car. It could be just one thing that someone doesn't like and they won't buy the car so we have to get them one with nothing on it and add the options that that particular customer wants, if any.

How often can the dealer change the posted price? For example can they charge $2K over sticker when they first come out, drop it to $1K over sticker a couple months later, etc?

"Our goal from the start was to change the conventions of the auto industry. We set out to create an affordable, unique & sophisticated vehicle. We wanted to create a new environment for people to purchase a car in - the kind of place where you're not sold a car, but rather where you would go to buy a car. Simple, straightforward & convenient - that's Pure Price. Here's how it's done: Scion's Pure Price purchase experience means no haggle, no hassle. The price you pay for all products and services offered equals the dealership's posted and advertised price.*Price menus*are clearly posted in the dealership showroom for all products and services. Dealers are free to set their own prices."

Its same idea as going to walmart, you don't haggle at the checkout for a lower price, you pay the pice it is listed at. That price can change, but in order for walmart to stay competitive it must be lower or equal than other stores.
