Trust me, i started another boxing thread LONG time ago and got no responses. lol But i missed that fight but was also rooting for Cotto to win and glad he did! What would you consider to be the best fight and knockout o the year?

tough question. I wish I had watched this fight because i heard it was pretty amazing. I cant think of a great knockout/fight that happened this year. Pacquaio and mayweather are mlegh their fights have been boring. I was honestly more satisfied seeing Eric Morales win his fight against the younger 21 boxer just because morales is a vet. Canelo is doing well and i really like his fighting style. Klitchsko did good but nothing too great and exciting. Really wasnt surprised that he won. Chavez JR is perhaps the most boring fighter in boxing and nothing like his dad. I feel marquez got robbed against pacquaio and I really think if I had watched last nights fight itd be my favorite this year. And if the ortiz fight would have continued I think it would have been mayweathers toughest fight to date. Too bad it ended the way that it did.
I myself am a boxer and plan to go pro next year.

As of the Pacquaio v Marquez fight, I would definitely agree with you.:happy0180: The funny thing about it was I had chosen Pacquaio to knockout Marquez in the late rounds OR if it did go to decision i felt Pacquaio would get the Win no matter what because of his hype. No way are they letting Boxing's biggest ticket lose to a fighter who lost to Mayweather (Hint: future MEGA fight?). So, it can be seen as Boxing trying to save its ass from losing possibly its biggest fight. But i felt Marquez was the better puncher even though he did slow down a bit towards the later rounds. As for the Ortiz v Mayweather fight, I was on the verge of flying to Vegas and knocking both of them out for putting up that kind of display. Controversial fights like that ruin the sport of Boxing and I lost a ton of respect for both fighters (more towards Ortiz) because they both had potential for a real fight and gave us this BullShit: QUESTION: I've been trying to train at a gym but do not know how to get started. Do you just walk into a boxing gym and tell them you wanna fight? or is there some sort of process to go through? Any advice for a young ambitious fighter trying to start off such as I? Good luck to you on your future fighting career, I happen to be related (engaged to my cousin) to the UFC fighter Tony Ferguson and also had a high school classmate fight at the Olympics to represent U.S who is now pro and doing very well.

Yeah and its also shown in boxing history that in order to win a title fight against the champ the competitor really needs to dominate the fight. Rarely does a close fight go to the competitor chasing the belt. And 100% if pacquaio would have lost it would have taken away from their upcoming fight with mayweather. Which i think is scheduled no for cinco de mayo 2012. I think mayweather is going to take it. Pacquaio is good fighter but honestly his punches linger for too long and a great counter puncher is the perfect recipe to destroy pacquaio. If marquez was tagging pacquaio im sure mayweather is going to with ease.
And I also feel marquez even though landing less punches than pacquaio... marquez's punches were way more effective. I started when I was 15 and i tried to compete in amateurs but half of the time that I went to the events I got declined because either they didnt have a fighter for me or the fighter would decline the fight. I stopped training for 3 years or so for school and just started again back in july. I am going to do amateurs for 6 months and then get my license with my coach/friend. And thanks for the good wishes. Regarding training and a gym. Luckily Ive been following my coach since day one and I met him at a kickboxing and traditional martial arts gym and weve become good friends so ive never had the trouble finding a trainer. I have been to plenty of gyms on my break though like Wild Card, La Habra Boxing, La Boxing etc etc... and all I did was hit the bag for 2 months and never got a trainer. My understanding on how it works is you really just have to put yourself out there and talk to trainers that you see around the gym and they will tell you what they charge. Honestly a lot of trainers ive seen are kind of not worth it (but then again ive been doing it for a long time). Only once has a trainer walked up to me and offered to be my trainer because he liked the way I fought. My advice to you is to find any kind of trainer to develop technique (I dont know how well formed your boxing is tho). And just do that for a while. More than likely theyre going to throw you in the ring and tell you to keep your hands up and not get hit without any real proper training. Id say go to a kickboxing gym where you can get at least the basics of boxing and then start to network make friends and find a trainer. Its just going to cost money. Where do you live in OC? How old are you? Ethnicity? (yeah it matters lol jk) how long have you been training for? im only 23 im not that old lol

Im borderline LA/OC area.
Lol! Im 5'10, 160lbs(trying for <150lbs), 21yrs old, Chicano, and have been "training" for about a year. I never really had a trainer but was in a boxing class (fitness) but stayed afterward to work on the bag/combinations and unfortunately have been teaching/learning on my own. I've sparred a couple of rounds with different types of people and I'm getting more comfortable with myself but still have a lot of work to do. Not sure what kind of "style" i have. Lol

I casually following boxing here and there. I remember the Tyson vs Holyfield's bite fight, that is where I saw Pacquiao fight for the first time in the one of the exhibition fights.
I agree too, the Pacquaio n Marquez fight was b/s. My buddy ordered the fight but I never made it over there b/c I was working on my truck. Cotto won but which round and what was the outcome?

I believe it was a TKO in the 10th round due to margarito's right eye.

haha well all I can say is keep at it. theres a reason they call it the sweet science. theres so much to it and its a very technical sport. Sign up for a boxing gym theyre relatively inexpensive and have somebody teach you proper foot work and body mechanics. I have seen boxing gyms for $20 a year to $50 a month and some gyms $150 a month. Perhaps I know a gym that would suit you around your area.
