New Flowmaster Cat back system

i did a bit more digging on the flowmaster system and the part # will be 817596. it is a full stainless cat back system with 4' double walled polished tips on each side with their 80 series muffler . Not sure what the power gains are, but the best news is that it looks to be much less than the competitors at about $500!.. Just an fyi for anyone interesed in another option. Flowmaster is legendary in domestic performance stuff, havent really done alot in the import/tuner type market but I'm sure it will be a nice system if its anything like their other stuff

ha ha, I just told someone about this just now. Actually, I called "Flowmaster" today. It sounds like the power gains will be significant. They also said they will be posting a youtube video advertising it soon.

They would have to convince me it's better than this:

Wow, that Nameless exhaust looks great, do we have any pictures of the Flowmaster? I would like to see how it looks on the back of the car with their 4inch tips.

Thanks,
Rick

This is actually one of the many possible setups I thought about for this car, so I'm very excited to hear Flowmaster is actually making it a reality, and on their own no less

Very curious to hear what it's going to sound like, and for $500, I'll bet cash money this is going to be the system to get.

well just the fact its called "nameless" is enough for me to atleast consider a huge name like Flowmaster in the mix here. I'm sure that is a nice kit no doubt , but the fact we have some options here is the best part something about me saying to crowds "oh I have a nameless" exhaust on my car or "i have the flowmaster kit" on my car.. I think the latter is much more desireable, but thats just my 2 cents

Says the guy that bought a Scion...

They are very well known in the Subaru community and are top notch just not top price. I would pick their stuff over Flowmaster, go figure.

Yeah, I really don't like Flowmaster, at all. Just my 2 cents.

I am reserving judgment until I hear what it sounds like and look over dyno results. My 2 cents. If it sounded good and made as much power as the others I couldn't care less who makes it.

I had Flowmaster Super 44 mufflers on my G8 and they droned like CRAZY but sounded incredible. Hopefully these are drone free.

The 80 is a little more docile than the 44

Just for shits and giggles, this is what the 80 series sounds like on an old MR-S Spyder: http://youtu.be/jwlS144zxc0

Friend had a bad experience when attempting to help them develop a part (similar to the Magnaflow and Tein issues members of this site had).

I only have experience with the 40s, but the 80 from what I'm to understand is a pretty big step down in terms of ridiculous volume/noise.

I'm hopeful that we get video soon...

Throwing out my opinion on the subject,
I dont personally like or dislike flowmaster, Ive heard some good and some bad set ups from them.
A company like nameless on the other hand, who took time and tested systems over and over again running them on the dyno to compare different setups sounds much better to me. Also I know they are a small company compared to the likes of flowmaster, and with their solid reputation, I would trust that every one of their products comes out of their shop with personal care put into the work.

Absolutely fair enough

I will say this though...

Personally, I am very set in my opinions about things like exhaust systems. In those opinions, I can't help but believe there is a lot of unnecessary mystique surrounding these types of parts.

"OHHHH!!! I wonder if this exhaust makes more power than this one?!?!"

To me, pipes are pipes, and bends are bends. Really, how many ways ARE there to reinvent a bend in a pipe to measure an appreciable difference?

I've always picked whichever [stainless] exhaust was the cheapest, because I really can't justify spending extra money for a part that won't net me a difference I'll notice, or that is proportionate to the additional money I'd be spending for it.

Does that make sense at all?

Yea, but mufflers/resonators have a bit of design to them, so do cats and headers.

I can appreciate trying to save money but the cheap ones tend to drone. Nothing worse than an exhaust that makes you wish you weren't in the car. I experienced that with the Z06 I bought, sounded great on the test drive and then the second I started the drive home I realized the Borla was going to make me hate the 1400 mile drive home.
