Going 10 over the limit (60 Hwy and 40 City)is understandable but any higher than that and you're posing a serious danger to everyone around you. Speed limits have nothing to do with driver skill, it has to do with the severity of collision at that speed. At 30 MPH, you can hit a bike in your blind spot and kill the rider. Respecting speed and your car is the sign of a good driver.

Though I might be biased. Ever since I saw how mangled my older brother was after hydroplaning a Ford F250 into a tree @ 55mph on the highway, I'm almost traumatized by speeding.

EVERYONE driving a car is guilty of speeding at some point, just some have never been caught. But here's the kicker, I feel like it's safer driving at 90mph than 55mph. Why? 90mph you're concentrating, you're watching and paying attention to EVERYTHING and what's in your rear view typically doesn't matter. 55mph is light, I get tired going 55mph on the highway. Not to mention I see more people doing other things at the speed limit like talking on the phone, texting, checking for fallen items, etc etc.

Breaking the speed limit by 5-10 MPH is in a different league than driving recklessly. I was speaking about general assholiness on the public roadways (20+ over the speed limit, rolling through stop signs, swerving in and out of lanes). Not only does it endanger peoples lives it inevitably leads to tickets and accidents. And as a member of the FR-S community I'd like to help keep our insurance premiums as low as possible.

And yes, I've had two tickets in my life. Both on the empty highway in the middle of the night. One for 76 in a 60 and another for 82 in a 70. I generally believe the speed limits on our highways is artificially low and perhaps are used more as a state and local government revenue generator rather than a safety implement.

I'm not unreasonable, I understand that these cars are extremely fun to drive. I will just restrain myself until I can properly unleash all of it's driving goodness, in a legal and much safer way, on the track. I encourage everyone to do the same. I don't want to see any of these cars wrecked or anyone here dead.

Understand completely. About eight years ago my older brother was in his RSX, was involved in an accident, rolled the car five or six times and was ejected from the vehicle through the driver side window. Spent four months in a coma due to head trauma and over a year in rehabilitation. He'll never be the same and most certainly will never drive again.

That said, I couldn't give two fucks what people do in the middle of the night on a deserted road. If they want to kill themselves, then by all means. Just keep it away from my family.

Seriously keep the speeding shit off public roads and away from everyone else. Yes driving the frs/brz makes driving feel like an awesome sport but all road conditions and other drivers reactions are never equal at any given moment. Don't feed your ego and get baited by mustangs or rice cars into redlight drag races or high speed highway lane splitting. Take your damn time and let them admire your nice new car.

Get some seat time at the local autocross event and get your need for speed out of your system. Attending an autocross with like minded people allows you to gain a certain respect for the rules of public roads with other commuters. Prove it on the track not public roads!

I got a speeding ticket for hitting 79 on the freeway. Traffic around me seemed to be going close to that so I was a bit surprised when I saw the highway patrol turn his lights on.
He later said that the car caught his attention and kept checking it out, then he noticed when I sped up and decided to pull me over. It sucked so bad, but whatever.

Funny story..

I was on my way home from work and spotted an Ultramarine FR-S on the highway. The driver must of seen me in his rear view mirror because he slowed down to match my speed. It was a older guy driving, probably mid 20's and out of no where, without any instigating from me, he RIPS it. I could see the smoke from his exhaust and I just kept my distance because I had no intention of participating (if you go 40km + the speed limit in BC, it results in your vehicle being towed and kept for 7 days..usually accumulating up to $2000 in penalties and points.)

I can see his tail lights start to disappear and I just maintained cruising speed.

5 minutes later, I see sirens ahead and the FR-S got pulled over.

I wasn't surprised and felt bad because it was about 9PM at night, and most likely the driver of the FR-S would have their vehicle towed. I decided to keep driving and turned off to get some gas. To my surprise, the FR-S pulls up.

We conversed for a bit and it turned out the cop clocked his speed at 34 KM over the speed limit, not enough for a towing, but enough for a big fat ticket.

He told me he was definitely going 40km+ but the officer threw him a bone. Must of been the FR-S because I've been caught in the same situation and the cops NEVER show any leniency.

HAHA I really thought this was me for a second there but mind was at 11:45pm and there was no s2k.

The FRS got me lots of questions about the car but no leniency at all. Hell because of the cop pulling me over a old asian lady slammed on her brakes afraid of the cop and caused a 3 car accident besides us about 3 mins after I got pulled over and yet no leniency at all, cop made me sit in my car and wait until 12:30am before dealing me with me which made me wait for another day cause he wont the tow as the next day.

I've only ever gotten one speeding ticket, and that was through a school zone simply because I'd assumed school was out. I'll try my hardest to not speed in this car and not succumb to peer pressure from my passengers.

No tickets yet but i just got my new agp catback and its loud as fudge i suspect its only a mater of time before i get one. Cant imagine how loud its going to be when i do full exhaust!! I need to find a way to muffle it down.

WOW, that was a **** move from the cop for waiting till the next day to write the ticket. I would of been so pissed because that is just unwarranted.

I know what you mean about cops being total jackasses, there was a speed trap coming down Boundary Rd (towards marine drive) and I must of been going 70km in 60km zone, the cop JUMPED out infront of my car while I was moving to pull me over. I swear if I didn't slam the brakes hard enough, I would of hit the officer. I could hear the car behind me slam their brakes as well. Turns out the officer pulled me over just to check my license and registration (no ticket yay)

Did the cop leave you stranded at 12:30 am in the morning? I can't count how many times I've had to rescue friends 3am-5am in the morning on granville bridge because of their cars' being towed..

Let me start by saying I completely agree that driving should be on the streets and racing at the tracks. Not to say I haven't disobeyed the rule there, but I agree it's not sensible or safe to do so.

That being said, I believe 'driving' needs to be viewed as something more than simply obeying laws. In many states it is still legal to text/talk on the phone while driving. It is not legal to go 75-90 in a 70 zone. Which do you consider to be more harmful in driving? I can tell you (just like another member), when I am speeding, I am definitely paying attention 110%.

So before you have a knee-jerk reaction of "what a dangerous moron" to somebody going 10-20mph over speed limit on the highways, think about it. Do you think going 55, 65, or 70 mph (depending on limit) makes you any less dangerous of a car on the road? Okay, sure, speed doesn't help and makes the accident worse but I wouldn't wager it increases the possibility. Also, if you want to go the speed limit or under, please be courteous to others and stay in the right lanes. It's one thing to go "slow", it's another to impose that on others.

In fact, according to a federal study:

• Accidents at the 58 experimental sites where speed limits were lowered increased by 5.4 percent. The level of confidence of this estimate is 44 percent. The 95 percent confidence limits for this estimate ranges from a reduction in accidents of 11 percent to an increase of 26 percent.
  
• Accidents at the 41 experimental sites where speed limits were raised decreased by 6.7 percent. The level of confidence of this estimate in 59 percent. The 95 percent confidence limits for this estimate ranges from a reduction in accidents of 21 percent to an increase of 10 percent.
  
• Lowering speed limits more than 5 mi/h (8 km/h) below the 85th percentile speed of traffic did not reduce accidents.

So slow is NOT safe, and speed doesn't kill (but it can surely help). I'm not saying everybody should speed and to hell with the limits. What I am saying is that you shouldn't judge somebody's safety in driving simply because of the faster speed they choose to drive at (within reason). Some people feel safer driving the limit (or even 5 under), fine. Other people feel safer driving 5-15 over, fine.

If you look at places like the Autobahn, it's not a shitshow of accidents. There are accidents, like any road will have, and sure some of them are speed-related. However, many of them recently are due to foreigners coming over and being total ****s, driving stupidly that would be unacceptable at ANY speed.

The next time you see an accident, think what caused it. Somebody not paying attention when pulling out? Somebody changing lanes too aggressively? Somebody simply not paying attention to what's in front of them? Somebody obviously distracted?

I'm willing to bet a large majority of the accidents most people will ever witness are not because of speed itself. The main time speed becomes a factor is when the driving conditions are not right (heavy heavy traffic, weather, visibility).

Also, lots of people have a false sense of security in their cars. They think because they have a truck/SUV with AWD or something larger that they are safer and can drive through these conditions better. I've noticed a lot of cars that get into trouble in in-climate weather aren't your Camrys and Accords, they're your Highlanders, Expeditions, and trucks that think they have more ability than they actually do.

If terminal literalism was an actual ailment you'd have died in early childhood.

I'm Proud of my tickets, they remind me to check my speed ever so often. But I won't sit here and tell you I go only 10mph over the speed limit and sit there. You've an irrational fear of your loved ones being on the road if more than 10mph over makes you more afraid of their lives you must have daily heart attacks.

Example: Where I live the highway speed limit is 65, not during rush hour traffic typically hovers somewhere around 80mph. So if I'm sticking with traffic at 80 I find it a lot safer than cruising along Grandpa Joe style at exactly the speed limit while wondering if one of these other fantastic drivers will be not paying attention long enough to slam into my rear.

And in all actuality you can be killed at any speed in a car crash; automobile fatalities haven't been delegated to just speeding, this being because every accident doesn't involve a brick wall. So with that in mind I always follow the philosophy drive within your comfort zone, when you drive your best. Frankly putputting along at the speed limit makes me drowse on the highway, it's even tough to stay awake during long drives on routes. So for me driving at within 5mph of the speed limit is tired driving, which is a no go. I like to sit comfortably at 10-20mph over depending on the situation.

Ever since I started racing at a track, driving on the road is just driving. I accelerate on the on ramps a little and go faster in banked curves at times, but anything I do, I am sure limit to the degree that an officer won't pull me for it. We can get away with 10-15mph over the highway speed here. I pass the cruisers almost daily. It is the flow of traffic. My last ticket was on my motorcycle, 37 in a 35. Said he wrote me up because it was cold out and at 37, hitting a patch of ice would kill me.

Anyway like I said, there is fun and there is stupid. Race tracks are to assist you to learn and control the car, please stop telling people that if they want to drive like idiots, they can take it to the track, they can't. If you want to drive like idiots, play video games and out of real cars.

I was pretty choked when I saw that he made it for the next day but you can't fight these impounded tickets at all.

Cop was a total douche since he didn't say a word to me other than asking for my info and just comes back and tells me to get out of my car and the tow truck starts taking it away I was shitting bricks thinking they were taking my car from me and auctioning it.

Still in the end I fucked up so can't be that pissed about it

That sounds like more like a laspe of judgement is to blame considering your brother must of chosen to speed during rain fall unless you meant he was going 55mph then hydroplaned in which I say how was speed the cause then? 55mph isn't speeding at all considering its on a highway

I really do believe if you are that traumtized by speeding you should drive at all. Don't want any accidental freak outs since speeding and cars are things you can't avoid

Girls always get out of tickets. My ex got pulled over daily because she was basically too stupid to be behind the wheel of a car; she failed her driving test 6 or 7 times... She, however, had huge fake tits and always got warnings.

I, on the other hand, rarely speed, but when I do it is almost a guarantee there will be a cop waiting to give me a ticket.
