I went and test drove a 370z the other day as I was getting impatient and thinking of bailing on getting an FR-S. Here are my thoughts: The interior on the base model I drove was comparable to an FR-S (I've driven two btw), transmission on the Z was worse, the engine sounded bad and although a good amount faster than an FRS, still felt quite slow to me. Seating position and overall ergonomics were much worse than the FR-S. The overall handling and balance feel on the FR-S blows the Z away. In conclusion the FR-S is slower but I had infinitely more fun driving it

Whether or not a car has back seats or is a convertible or not have nothing to do with it being a sports car.

It makes the comparison pretty tough.

First off, the 86 is only available in limited quantities as of now. Therefore, everyone has been paying MSRP (even if they are lucky), while most Z owners are paying right around invoice.

The Limited BRZ is $27,450 MSRP while the base Z is $32,280. That's less than $5,000. Then if you take the invoice into account, at $30,241 your difference is even closer. Look into a used Z and they will be very close price-wise.

If you are looking at a new sport touring, then the game changes and you encroach on your 5 figure difference; however, then the 'luxury' card comes into play. The interior of even the base Z is more 'mature' than the plasticy space invaders in the FR-S (but that's a whole other story).

My point is, they are for different buyers, but the prices do get decivingly close when you option out a 86 and strip down a Z. You also add over 100hp and 100tq (as well as a few hundre pounders), but also cut close to 2 seconds off your 1/4 mile...

You can always add power; it's difficult to add a balanced chassis and ergonomics after.

Some of you know I traded in my Z for an FRS. I wouldn't take that back for anything. Nissan begged me to take a 2012 sport package gun metal Z in April, at a ridiculous price. I still said no. I was so close to the FRS I could taste it. I am so glad I waited 8 more weeks after that phone call. I have never loved a car like I love my FRS.

I think they are just jealous about our cars.
Why are you lurking in that forum when you just have a Fr-s(Fun but Really Slow!)??

Seeing a FR-S in person, it is a way better looking car.
Dude, in Canada the 370z goes for 40k starting and Fr-s goes for $25999. IMO 370z is much nicer than the fr-s. Have anyone called the FR-S a p*ssy magnet? i dont think so.

Whoa whoa whoa. So imma let you finish... but I'm pretty sure the title of this thread is pretty clear.

The comparison is about an FR-S vs the 350Z, not the Subaru BRZ Limited vs the 370z.

2013 Scion FR-S: $24,930
2012 Nissan 370z: $32,280

So yeah... maybe not $10K, but I would say $7,350 is still a substantial enough price differential that makes this comparison extremely tough, if not flawed.

The Z is a nice car - no doubt about it, but when you incrementally spend $7K+ more on a car... yeah it's a no brainer that you're going to get something faster.

The Z is a coupe. Just because it has a liftback doesn't mean it's a hatchback. A hatchback typically have a rear end that looks like a GTI/MS3/Focus hatch.

Where are you guys getting that? I have never seen being a convertible a requirement in the definition of a sports car.

It's been beaten to death by various forums like miata.net. Even wiki had that in their definition but I just looked and it's changed on wiki.

Interesting. It's not in any proper definition I have seen.

I only use the not a true sports car line to troll STI owners. They don't like it.

hahaha, glad most of my posts in that thread are fair to the FT86

I started trolling about 6 pages in tho.

I love my Z more than I could get into an FRS/BRZ, but I can appreciate them both for what they are.

How many troll threads like this are we going to get before you guys stop responding to these idiots?

It's clear, they are very upset about their small wee-wee and they are very insecure about themselves...let them live in their own little world

I disagree with your reasoning. I've been surprised at how many times I've had to argue this point on this forum in the few weeks I've been here. Just because you have, say 50 grand, to throw on a vehicle, that doesn't mean you necessarily want to just toss that 50 grand on a vehicle and be done with it. Some folks might want to consider cheaper alternatives and either mod the car with the remainder or use it on something else.

Why is that so far fetched?

The Z and the FR-S are both great cars that do different things well. Drive them both and pick what you like, if they're on your car buying radar.
