Is TRD Quickshifter worth it?
Hi everyone! How is TRD Quickershifter? Anyone used/using it before or right now? I have a 2017 86 and its gear box has been redesigned a little bit compared to previous years of FRS/BRZ. The stock MT feels pretty good but still I am just curious how much difference I can feel if I put on this part?
Also if I put it on by myself, does it influence my stock warranty? |

There's a whole thread about it here:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58951 But the basic consensus is: Yes, it is totally worth it - but make sure to use loctite to prevent the thing from coming loose (it's all in the instructions). If you have a CF or other after-market driveshaft, there's a chance that there won't be enough clearance. From my experience: Paired with the MTEC shift springs, they gave an awesome shifting experience. More effort is needed, but throws are shorter and more solid than stock. A buddy of mine compared it favourably or similar to the S2000 shifter (can't comment, as I've never drive the S2k) |

I'd save up and go with this one instead of the TRD (or any other stock based setup shifter):
IRP shifter Well worth the price if you really want to up how the shifter feels, stock and others is no comparison whatsoever to this and the CAE Ultra Shifter...totally different league of shifting feel and precision.

I would hold off on this, as it seems no one has answered your question on if it will fit or work. If you are certain there have been significant changes on the 2017 model, I wouldn't want to be the guinea pig. I believe the warranty issue is only when something is damaged due to an aftermarket part.

Assuming it works on a 2017+...
I would do it in a heart beat. Back when my car was still stock I drove another guy's FRS and noticed how much nicer his shifter was compared to mine. Noticeably shorter throws were obvious. I asked him what he had done to make it so nice and he said, TRD and M-tech springs. I purchased the TRD kit that day from Conicelli Toyota and installed it a day later. I had no problems with my Driveshaft Shop aluminum driveshaft either. |

Great mod with straightforward instructions if you prepare all the tools called out. I think there was a typo is one step with a direction reversed (either left/right or front/rear) but it will become obvious when something only fits one way.
I already had the STI short shift lever (identical to the JDM TRD short shift lever) prior and felt there was still some slop after the transmission warmed up that could be cleaned up. This USDM TRD quickshifter bracket tightened it up with the right amount of notchy, positive feel.

Yea I look through TRD US website and I found out the TRD Quickshifter has the same part number as previous FRS so I assume they'd be a fit. Am I right?

If you ever get locked out of first or second, the first thing that will happen is @Ultramaroon will ask if you have a TRD short shifter. And he'll be right.

One thing I am certianed about before purchasing my 86 is that Toyota has revised the gears on new 86. But since they are using same part number for the Quickshifter for 2017 86, I guess they should be fit.

The gears changed inside the trans wont effect the gear shift lever design.

Lol what is the story behind it? I am thinking about doing some quickshifter mod but I just bought the car so I'd rather put on some stock parts like TRD instead of aftermarket, even tho I know some of them are even better than TRD. Any thoughts?
