What is this for?

This has been bothering me for years. What is this space used for? I can't figure out anything that would fit in there.

In the 80's it would be for the graphic equalizer dealer installed option.

For the BRZ premium and the limited FR-S models, where the push button start is.

On base models, it's a place whose purpose we can ponder.

Wanna really melt your brain? What about the rectangular plate on the console?? LOL

I completely forgot, the BRZ limited is much different!!! Maybe a smart phone WOULD fit in the one originally pictured? I have absolutely disregarded this space since I bought the car.

My wallet fits nicely in there. Phone is too big.

It is for whatever you would like to shoot into the back seat whenever you launch heavily. At least that is what I use it for since I have yet to find anything that will actually stay in there.

Haven't found it to be all that useful yet..... though I do store my aux cable and phone cable there when I'm not using them.

I keep loose change for tolls in there. Nothing else I keep handy fits, outside a car charger I keep in my glove box any way.

Anything I put in there takes me 8 tries to cram out. I usually get so pissed I end up swearing to never put it back. But I do, every time because there's no other damn place to put my stuff in this car.

Phone (iPhone SE), spare thumbdrive. tic tacs, spare change. It's more of a temporary spot to just put things in, but it's not entirely useless.

i just put my change in mine (BRZ limited) my phone can't fit at all. But lately i've had too much change so when i hit a bump it flies out and lands in my shift boot or on the floor mats.
