DIY - Installing TRD Sound Changer

Since the original TRD Sound Changer comes with an Japanese Install Manual, I thought I make a short DIY for it.

Its a quiet simple change, takes about 10Minutes the first time you do it, and after you know how its done you can change it in 2-3 Minutes.

First you need to choose which Soundchanger you want to install.

Red is the loudest, Green is moderate, but still louder than Stock, and Blue is almost canceling the noise.

The pipe that runs the "sound" into the cabin is located near the batterie. Follow it untill it goes into the firewall connecting to the cabin

You acutally cant see the pipe, but this picture should give you an idea how it looks down there. Just pull the pipe out (the picture shows the installed red soundtube. The stock Sound tube is gray)

The Sound Tube is attached with an clamp to the pipe. Use a pliers to squeeze the 2 tabs of the clamp to expand, and move it down the pipe. BEFORE you remove the soundtube, check the following: The Pipe has a white marker on it, remeber how the sound tube was fitted on the pipe with that mark. Its importat to put the TRD sound tube in the same angle as otherwise you will not be able to put it back into the firewall correctly. Now you can remove the tube from the pipe. Choose your TRD soundtube color you wish to use, and put it again on the pipe. The TRD logo remains visible, so youre putting the other side of the tube into the pipe. Also, the TRD logo should be on line with the marker on the pipe. Put the clamp back on the pipe/tube, and put the whole thing again into the firewall of your car.

Thats it.
You wont hear any big difference below 3500 rpm, so you have to rev the enigne a bit to see the change.

I've found some youtube Videos showing the different Pipe sounds.

Thank you for the right up. Is there anything inside of the red/green tubes or is it just straight through? Why does the blue tube have the indents on the outside?

The tubes are filled with some kind of "foam" or something, but dont ask me what it is exactly.
The Blue one ins blocked, thats why it is the most "silent" one of them

I've attached some pictures for you, hope it helps to get the idea of the construction of the pipes (sorry for the bad quality of pictures)

Great. Thank you for the extra pics. May have to play around with various items to see how it changes the sound up or see if the sound can be killed without having to find something to plug the hole at the intake.

This could prove to be fun on a snowy, stuck in the house, day.

Thanks for the explanation.
I understand that the blue one is only a plug to stop noise to go inside the cabin with the indents allowing the air flux to go outside.
Do you think it's possible to modify the original pipe to obtain the same result without removing the totality of the noise system as explained in other post?

Awesome! The red sounds louder on the video, but it's hard to compare. Does the red seem much louder in person than stock? Does it change the pitch of the sound at all, or just the volume? Thanks for the DIY!

Well, I guess you could change the original sound tube to a "blocked" one, however I guess its easier finding someone who has the TRD Sound Tube set and is not using the blue one and buy it from him.

Cant really tell yet, since I have not yet passed the 1000miles and therefore not reving over 4000rpm. However, you can hear that its a tick louder between 3000 and 4000. But I'm pretty sure it will be more once you go higher in rpms

Could u post a picture of the inside of the stock tube?
if its between the blue and green and you want red tube sound and all it takes is removing inside insulation it kinda seems like an easy DIY.
Thank you

here you go. however, the red tube also has some "foam" inside, so I doubt that removing the foam in the stock tube will achive a good sound

^Really? I didn't notice foam in the red one; I could be wrong. And I think the stock one has little plastic blocks/ribs molded into the tube walls which can't easily be removed.

It only makes sense that there would be little to no foam in the red tube as it is the loudest
