Honestly, I think the numbers are extremely small when shopping for a DD. If looking at a weekend fun car, the numbers are larger, but I think Toyota & Subaru are aiming more for the FWD sport market.

since the majority of cars are for dd, i dont see this being any different. its too cheap to be garage queen worthy and too expensive to a track toy

I wish they would offer the base model with steel wheels for people who will upgrade with aftermarket wheels for $700 discount. Personally, FRS will look the best with 18" wheels. 17" look too small.
I would definitely consider it to be Miata competition, but, while I'd like it to be as cheap as possible, I'll still buy the Scion if it's close to $24k. (Scion over Subaru, considering their fixed-price sales structure; I'm expecting demand to enable Subaru dealers to jack prices up, but that's not the point I'm trying to make right now--back to Miatas...) I had briefly considered a Miata after driving an NA, hoping the NC would have suffered from enough model bloat that I'd fit (6'5"). Then I sat in one and it hadn't gotten bigger inside... Aside from that, some key FR-S specs sound better to me on paper, so I don't see $24k being out of line compared to the market:

FR-S.....................................Miata
$22-24,000?...........................$23,470
LSD standard..........................LSD an extra-cost option on a $25,830 trim level
200 hp/151 torques.................167 hp/140 lb/ft
Estimated ~30 mpg combined....22/28 mpg
6-spd....................................5-spd

I used to have a 2006 Miata and I was not impressed. The engine screams but the car crawls. I would not recommend it to anyone unless you are looking for an affordable convertible. If having a convertible is not your top priority, go with FRS. It is a no-brainer.
